    -Leader in the field
    -Well respected
    -Good pay
    -Federal benefits
    -Security (almost impossible to get fired)

    Cons

    -Government work can happen slowly, bureaucracy
    -New agendas and budgets every year, with new presidents can be major
    -Because cannot fire people, you can end up with unmotivated people (this of course always depends on where you end up)

    Pros

    The CDC is a world-class organization that has a very important real world mission of saving lives and protecting people - 24/7 with the stated goal of Safer, Healthier People. Everything you do contributes in some form or fashion to enabling the CDC to achieve its mission, whether it involves science, medicine, or business office operations. The work that CDC does matters...and the corporate culture is very employee centric with emphasis on proper work-life balance and supportive programs for employees such as free well-being counseling, legal consultations, lactation rooms, and elder care support groups. Definitively one of the best federal agencies to work for.

    Cons

    Compensation is restricted to the limits of the OPM General Schedule, Wage Grade, and Senior Executive Service pay levels that may be further influenced by Congress or the President in terms of annual increases.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Maintain the emphasis on work-life balance and keep stressing the importance of the work that CDC employees do...and encourage recognition programs for outstanding employees such as cash awards that help mitigate effects of limited compensation due to the OPM GS/WG/SES limits.

    work with very talented individuals from diverse backgrounds. most are very devoted to producing quality outcomes and sought out employment at the CDC. you can produce science that will do a lot of people some good, and you can look back on your career and feel proud.

    Cons

    the politics above and within the CDC will try the most devoted amongst us. the travel will wear down the heartiest road warrior unless you work in a chronic disease position.

    my opinion, staff could use a bit more freedom to do their jobs without unhelpful politics

    Upper management should closely observe their front-line managers since they are usually new to the role. Also keep an open door policy with the employees who report to the new manager.

    Two stars as a taxpayer; four stars for great mission and awesome pay BUT you are getting paid for stretching 20 hours of work into a 40 hour work week. Overpaid and underworked.

    Great pay, mostly good people. The majortuty have forgotten we they got into public health. Cardio experts probably will die of cardio issues....do as I say, not as I do.

    Cons

    not enough work, too many people unless there is a response going on

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    14 centers into 7; cut the GS-13s that close their office door to "get work done"....or at least remove their TVs (no joke)
