Pros
good projects, supportive of my professional growth and aspirations. great team members, my personal management layer is very nice to work with, the layer above that seems to be just as good.
Cons
projects are too small. projects are not taking me where I want to go for the future. there seems to be some element of cronyism in the promotion.
Advice to Senior Management
I think the benefit package could use some work. Also, when calculating bonus, why does management always think that the vacaton benefit should be counted against the available hours? IT workers at other companies typically have more vacation than I was initially offered.
Pros
Great inside sales experience, growth potential.
Good brand name in IT industry
Cons
Management is strict with work hours
Base salary is a joke
Advice to Senior Management
Increase base salary to 35,000
Change the profit pay out structure.
Pros
CDW offers many great perks such as tickets, lunches, ipads, vacations and several prizes daily.
Cons
Communication and turnaround time is poor right now as they have yet to add additional support to their sales support following 2009's downsizing.
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to employees concerns in regards to career advancement. The day to day understanding of employees needs are ok, but their career ambitions are somewhat neglected
Pros
If you are willing to put in the time and effort, you will succeed at CDW. Management is always looking to hire from within.
Cons
CDW as a company tends to follow the basic rule, "It's not about what you know, it's about WHO you know.
Advice to Senior Management
Challenge your peers. Challenge your suboordinates. Be willing to adapt to change. Be willing to listen. Make things interesting at work.
Pros
CDW is not all sales. A large part of the company is focused on backend support - sales operations, shipping/receiving, marketing, product, hr, etc. I can't speak to Sales roles. But on the corporate side, there is much to enjoy about working for CDW.
Work/Life Balance - Never had an issue if it was needed that I leave early due to emergency. I generally work about 40-45 hours per week. I come in between 7:30 and 9 and then leave 9 hours later (with an hour-ish lunch).
Salary - Salary is competitive with industry. I will say that it seems outside hires will generally be compensated greater for a role than an internal transfer/promotion would receive.
Benefits - Benefits won't blow you away, but nothing where you feel the need to purchase supplemental insurance or anything like that.
Perks - Perks are all right. Company outing once a year, team outings a couple times a year, vendor lunches, etc. These are nice, but they're as I've described - perks. You don't select a job over a perk.
Cons
The biggest drawback for me is the lack of training/career growth assistance. I believe in making my own way, but at the same time it would be nice to have some direction with regard to trainings/classes/etc. I'll never understand why a company would not be interested in improving it's own employees' skill sets.
Pros
Work/life balance
Training
Vendor Interaction
Overall good benefits
Hands off leadership
Cons
Compensation
Growth Limited
Managers have favorites
Unreasonable goals
Lack of interest in development
Pros
- Great education on sales and technical specs
- Constant perks from within the company and vendors
- Start off with a class, thus making your social adaptation very easy since you all start on the same foot
Cons
- high turn-over rate because only those who are ambitious and tough makes it, therefore unstable as to who stays and who doesn't, could negatively affect the atmosphere of work if a lot of your friends leave
- no initiative to improve or promote employees' work-life balance
- no comfort area for employees to socialize or take a break
Advice to Senior Management
Senior management should continue its good efforts in moving the company forward at this amazing pace, but at the same time intensify the selection process some more to ensure a lower turnover rate.
Pros
Its a fun place to work. It was a great experience when i was there. The people are also very nice.
Cons
The salary is low and they do not treeat their employees with as much respect as i thought should have been given.
Advice to Senior Management
it is sucha big company. There is nothing they can do. Just try to work on the salary and benefits packages.
Pros
CDW is a well known company throughout the US and has great opportunities for entry level sales people that are motivated to work hard.
Cons
CDW is management heavy. They reward management for their employees good work. Managers get bonus when the employees lost 401K, no reviews. CDW had a layoff in 2008 and as CDW continue to grow they did not rehire the people they lost, they required all their people to work more with less. They announced the 2010 greatest year in CDW history with decreased benefits for their employees and no work life balance.
Advice to Senior Management
Focus on the people doing the job and get back to a company that cares about the people not the money!
Pros
Good people and relaxed culture are the best things about working here. It's a great place to start for people looking for a foot in the door at a fairly well known IT company.
Cons
Continually loses talent due to the lack of incentive to stay. This creates low morale and very little pride in the work being done.
Advice to Senior Management
Make the culture of CDW one of inclusion. Reward your work force with a sense of pride for what they do. Do not take the bulk of your workforce for granted because they are not all easily replaceable.
