    Account Director

Account Director (Former Employee) Arlington, VA

ProsGood process and value for companies to have when economic times are good. The sharing model does seem to be beneficial to all members.

ConsThe company has an intensely strict oversight and management- too many cooks in the kitchen. It seems the upper management is made up of intense individuals that are un-relatable to most, so they need genuine people to represent the company and then try and coach those representatives into their own mold. It is a culture bias that leads to failure.

Advice to Senior ManagementGive your employees some freedom to create their own style and you will not have to control them and force them to come across with the same deficiencies the management personifies.

CEB is like that crazy ex you can't seem to get rid of.

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Arlington, VA

ProsI met some extremely intelligent people who are potentially lifelong friends.
Great for a recent college grad or someone without a lot of experience in the workforce.
If you are motivated, and don't mind putting in extra hours, a lot of opportunity for advancement.

ConsWork life balance non-existent, expect lot's of emails and phone calls outside of business hours.
Expect to be involved in never ending projects or projects with such unrealistic deadlines that they're completed extremely haphazardly.
Not enough accountability for senior management that treats workers like commodities and plans poorly for the future.
Antiquated business model, new generation of C levels probably won't find the AERs or research enlightening enough to cover the price tag.

Advice to Senior ManagementThere needs to be an incentive plan to boost the efficacy of managers or at least make managers culpable for bad decision making.

Great company that is focused on ensuring the success of its employees

Research Analyst (Current Employee) Arlington, VA

ProsCompany gives employees a lot of freedom to chose what to focus on internally and provides great career building opportunities. Even if you do not come from a traditional business background, the company will train and provide you with opportunities to learn the necessary skills and invests in building your business acumen.
The recruiting team is not only very nice, but also great at finding you the best fit in the company. They truly take their time to know the skills, interests, background and personality of each employee and matches these to the proper team to ensure happiness and ultimately success internally.

ConsHours can be a bit unpredictable during the busy season, but generally are fine.

Don't do it. Dishonest company will set your career back years.

    Director (Former Employee) Arlington, VA

Prosas an employee you do get access to all of the research and can learn a lot about business that will help you in your future positions. Co-workers and peers are good people.

ConsWhere to begin. Sr. Leadership is invisible and completely out of touch with the employees. CEO holds all hands via a chat tool? No feeling of working for a single company and only those who have grown up in CEB and never worked anywhere else have any voice or authority. Almost impossible to succeed or even feel a part of the comapny if you come from the outside with experience. The "CEB culture" is almost cult-ish and they have even made up terms for use in the research that isn't even known in the outside world they serve. Research and advisors have rarely, if ever come from the actual roles they support and have no working or applicable knowledge of anything they create or support. Management is a complete joke as are the politics. Dishonest recruiters don't tell you everything you should know until you find them out on your first day when it is too late. Work life balance is non-existant and leaders don't care, especially if you are in sales. Long hours and time away from your family is expected during the holidays, including Christmas Eve and New Years' Eve. VERY high attrition is due to the basic fact that people do not like being treated poorly without adequate pay, benefits, or respect. Not sure the facade that exists now can be sustained over many more years.

Advice to Senior ManagementPay attention and actually talk to the people, live. Decisions are being made without any input from the people doing the work. There is no connection to the people at all. Too much reliance on people who have no idea what they are doing. Management at the mid levels is incompetent. Fund efforts that will help build the talent and take those programs seriously. When there are good external people who join, they leave within a year when they see the real CEB.
