I have been working at CEMEX

    Pros

fair pay and benefits, decent mid level management, great customers to work with; flexible with family demands, overall "low key" feeling to company

    Cons

senior management seems to be totally out of touch with the lowest rungs of who works for them, both salary and hourly; appearance seems to be that unless you are "chosen" or know someone at the highest levels, you will not get promoted beyond the position you hired into

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

read your 360 evals and go and back them up in the field - ask for harsh criticism, and accept it without repercussions - too many employees afraid of speaking up, many have good ideas

    I worked at CEMEX

    Pros

I think if you are a new graduate and are willing to live where ever, the opportunities at Cemex are endless. You can move into different areas if you are interested and willing to relocate. Also if you want to experience other countries, this would be available.

    Cons

    1) When senior management wants something "now", they don't care if it means a lot of overtime or time away from families. You can be compensated monitarily, but you will be worked hard for it.
    2) Not a lot of communication from management down.
    3) Work/Life balance is not as depicted on website.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Communicate more with lower levels and encourage/insist middle management communicates downward. If your website says you believe in work/life balance, then walk the talk.

I worked at CEMEX as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

    Work is challenging
    People is smart and helpful
Perks of the job are good
You get a sense of pride in the company because of what they do and all the countries that they are in.

    Cons

    Work-life balance
    Work load is usually high
Stress levels get above normal many times because you want to get all the things done in regular hours but many times you end up staying more time, without being compensated for such.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

In the offices of Cemex Central, the food offering should be better so that employees can eat in the company without leaving.

I have been working at CEMEX full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Global leverage is there but due to downsizing people do not have enough time to network with those outside the country.

    Cons

Autocratic and bureaucratic management practices are taking the toll on this company. They are not able to grow as other players in the market which has caused them to lose market share.

    Former Employee - Anonymous Employee

I worked at CEMEX full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Expert, professional committed ground-level staff. Products you can be proud of. Probably still the best construction materials company around.

    Cons

No life-work balance. Staff seen as dispensable commodities and expected to do the work of 2 or 3 people. Endemic, sometimes blatant sexism - embarrassing for any man to see who has any sense of decency. Climate of fear where people are frightened to say when anything is wrong in case they are victimised or blamed for it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Treat your staff with respect.
