I worked at CEMEX full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Expert, professional committed ground-level staff. Products you can be proud of. Probably still the best construction materials company around.

    Cons

No life-work balance. Staff seen as dispensable commodities and expected to do the work of 2 or 3 people. Endemic, sometimes blatant sexism - embarrassing for any man to see who has any sense of decency. Climate of fear where people are frightened to say when anything is wrong in case they are victimised or blamed for it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Treat your staff with respect.

    Pros

Among the pros that I found during my tenure as Advisor are warm camaraderie amongst colleagues, rich and diverse cross-functional projects and a stellar array of the industry's top talents.

    Cons

I found it particularly hard to make an international transfer although it was something to expect during a bad season for the industry.

Former Employee - Several Mid Management In Various Departments

I worked at CEMEX full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Learn best practices, fast advancement on lower levels, real business exposure in smaller countries

    Cons

Poor middle management, loyalty overrules skills when it comes to promotions, aggressive salary bargaining, international assignments nearly impossible if you're not from Latin America: truly not a global company

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Further cut bureaucracy; stop lying about results on all levels, you're just blowing a bubble; take change initiatives not just talk about them
