    Pros

    - Positive mission
    - Talented, passionate employees
    - Phenomenal benefits
    - Regular training opportunities available

    Cons

    - Confused company culture that continues to evolve/develop
    - HR department lacking with little to no structure or framework in place concerning compensation and performance reviews
    - Very limited opportunity for career growth

    Advice to Management

In addition to great benefits, invest in your employees up front in terms of compensation. Establish a structure that allows for career advancement to avoid frustrated employees who inevitably seek employment opportunities elsewhere.

    Pros

some great, smart people, decent salaries, interesting corporate culture with a blending of non-profit and people who know about money, ridiculous benefits

    Cons

uneven management, poor management training, pitiful HR department, antiquated and pointless annual review process, very little ability to move up

    Advice to Management

    better training for managers

    Pros

Great staff, great benefits, great internal learning structure and a sound number of resources. The one advantage is that CFA attracts great staff but does not develop them well. It needs to stay competitive and remember its a member organization.

    Cons

Risk adverse, try too hard to look like you are doing a lot when actually you are doing nothing significant. New leadership means better outlook but there will be people who try to do as little as possible.

    Advice to Management

Stay focused and get rid of the deadweight before people start leaving for greener pastures

    Pros

The best thing about CFA Institute is that no one is cynical or confused about the mission of positively impacting the investment management and capital markets industries by educating professionals on ethics and state of the art analytical approaches to understanding investments. The mission is bigger than the CFA credential program and everyone feels a part of it.

    Cons

The organization still needs to professionalize in some processes since it has grown up over time from a small professional association and is now a global enterprise.

    Advice to Management

Reduce approval layers and let the staff make decisions more quickly.

    Pros

Outstanding benefits, good working environment, friendly colleagues. Opportunity to travel and spend time in other offices. Good cultural values.

    Cons

Lack of mobility and opportunities can be stifling at times. Getting projects completed can be difficult (red tape). Work can be slow at times.

    Pros

Interesting work. Everyone who works here is always so nice, smart, and helpful. Benefits and comp are good too. Management is pretty committed to company values which is also a plus.

    Cons

Projects can sometimes be held up by a lot of bureaucracy. Not the fastest-moving or most forward-thinking firm either.

    Pros

Enjoyed the work, and always worked with nice, reasonable, smart people. Benefits were great, and pay was generous. Espoused cultural values were wonderful.

    Cons

High tolerance of mediocrity in both personnel and process. Emphasis on indulging wasted resources and talent. No appreciation of skills or experience brought to the job; job success relied completely on fitting in to a tight group - nice but also cliquey. Espoused cultural values were always trumped by strict hierarchy, limiting contributions and improvement.

    Advice to Management

Be more open to suggestion and improvement.

    Cons

Struggles to be progressive due to risk aversion. Salaries are not competitive. Difficult for staff to find promotion opportunities.

    Pros

I feel honored to work at CFA Institute with its noble goal of improving ethics and education in the global investment industry. New HQ in Charlottesville is great, smart people, good wages and often times the ability to travel internationally.

    Cons

No firm is perfect. With many departments, coordinating efforts is sometimes challenging but this is improving. Many programs going on at the same time so sometimes priorities are unclear. This too is improving.
