Pros
Its a large company that can give you a lot, for example training and even benefits. They have a lot of good managers that are willing to listen to your goals and aspirations.
Cons
You have to push to advance in any direction. You have to push to advance your career goals and to get training. Hope that you get a good Manager otherwise career advancement and training could be put on hold. You need to push for Salary too, but I find that you may start a little lower, but if you do good work for them they will then reward you at your annual review
Advice to Senior Management
Pay a little better and get rid of useless and known knowledgable people
Pros
Knowledgable people within the team
Cons
Disconnected and out of touch corporate management
Advice to Senior Management
Invest in the team. Be truthful with your clients.
Pros
Opportunities for growth abound! Management is very good about allowing staff to carve their own path and encourage researching new ways of doing things...
Cons
There is a high amount of "entitlement" in the office I work at. People have obtained positions based on "who" they know when their skill does not support that position. It is very easy to lose focus on the fact that CGI does actually support a work/life balance. They will happily work you like a dog, but don't flinch if you say no.
Advice to Senior Management
Good staff keep the good clients happy. If you want to keep your best clients and grow your business with them, make sure that you are giving the staff that work with them the ability and the tools to work effectively. Focus more on quality and less on quantity.
Pros
They are a large company and many transfer options are available. They are involved in many industries so it's easy to find a project that you'll enjoy.
Cons
Getting a raise is like pulling teeth. The most effective way to get one is to get an offer from another place, which also creates animosity with your manager. There is a lot of redundant overhead, and the internal IT department is very slow and difficult to get a hold of.
Advice to Senior Management
Your employees are your largest resource. Losing them to other companies means a great loss of information. While money is not a motivator, it can be a demotivating when an employee realizes he can a lot more money somewhere else.
