Pros
-Decent compensation
-Decent workplace
-
Cons
- Career progression
- Growth in business
Pros
There is not much to boast about here. Employees are allowed to telecommute where possible so that employee and employer costs go down.
Cons
This could be a novel. Lack of communication, lack of leadership, underpaid, overworked. Very little, or no recognition for a job well done.
Pros
If you need experience or no other place to work
Cons
As consultant at CGI you do not have influence where/what to work on. As soon as there is no assignment/project available for couple of weeks you can be temporary laid off. While you are temporary laid off you are at CGI mercy for 9 months while you have to live on unemployment insurance income if you want to collect deserved severance after 9 months.
Advice to Senior Management
Treat people as human and never use temporary laid off as an option, which is disgraceful. Word about CGI is spreading fast.
Pros
Opportunities to work with competent and pleasant people.
Still a competitive remuneration package.
Training is promoted and available when requested.
Cons
A bit too much politics in the way promotions and raises are given to employees.
Lack of compensation scale doesn t promote the equity amongst employees.
Pros
- decent work life balance (but this does depend on the project you get)
- smart coworkers (in my case, developers)
Cons
- ridiculously bad management.
- lack of respect, recognition, transparency and compensation (although this seemed to widely vary depending on your business unit/group)
- did I mention really crappy management?
Advice to Senior Management
- errr, I don't think words can rectify how bad these ppl are. Good managers are few and far between, and those that really are good end up leaving.
Pros
the nature of work is very client driven, there were many months when I didn't even have to worry about interacting with my resource manager. Flexible work schedule including the possibility of working from home once you can work out a rapport with the client.
Cons
deadline driven culture, you may have to put in a lot of extra time on evenings/weekends if the project is a mess. Overtime pay depends on your pecking order, anyone north of Senior Consultant doesn't get to make OT even though they have to work.
Advice to Senior Management
Try to treat employees like human beings as opposed to just an employee number that generates revenue. Bench time is one that is dreaded by all employees due to management's relatively short leash for those who are not billable.
Pros
- flexibility with work times (as long as the jobs gets done)
- some really smart and nice people in the group who are willing to share their expertise
- environment is relatively relaxing
Cons
- no project =no work. been on and off the bench for last year
- not much employee recognition
- under paid
- some individuals have a pompous nature to them: The "superstar" syndrome
- horrible evaluation process-- I have no idea what I need to do in order to get promoted
- in some teams, favoritism (work goes to those individuals rather than giving others a chance)
Advice to Senior Management
- stop hiring like crazy. there's not enough of work to go around. employees are BORED out of their minds and there's nothing to do.
- involve (keep people in the loop of what's happening) your people
- stop micromanaging-- your people are actually capable of performing! (give them a chance!)
- provide more training if there's no work (at least the employees will continue to "learn" something useful that my help the team/company later on)
Pros
They share purchase is an ok deal. They match up to a maximum percent of your salary. That is the only pro I can think of.
Cons
You are a no one there. Bottom line is get it done and get it done fast. Quality does not seem to be a big part of there contracts.
Advice to Senior Management
Maybe care a little about your employees and communicate to them what is in the plan for them.
Pros
If they want you, money is not a big issue.
Cons
If you are out of date, every resource is replaceable, swap from Toronto to India
Advice to Senior Management
indian is cheaper, but, quality is better in Toronto.
Pros
good place to start if you want to acquire some skill & experience once you are ready to learn from job by yourself.
Cons
They have no respect to employees as a human
Advice to Senior Management
treat your employee well, then you can do well.
