Pros
Collect great experience in various industries (telecom, health care, etc).
The Social club is a great plus.
Very down to earth staff
Benefits are decent for the overall market
Cons
Very long hours
Work/family ratio is unbalanced
Micro-managed constantly
Promotions are not generally based on experience/skill from what I have seen
Hard to move off of a project once assigned -
Advice to Senior Management
Offer more praise to members on a project when credit is due
Allow members to change projects easier
Pros
Paychecks are alright.
Good benefits.
great locations
not the most difficult to get in.
Cons
management play politics
overtime sometimes
lack of promotion
Advice to Senior Management
no politics
Pros
You get experience in all different aspects of marketing. I did RFP and RFI's, PR work with their annual conference, as well as marketing research and social media work.
Cons
The community you work with is very bureaucratic so you have to go through a lot of paperwork to just get the job and then in order to change anything in the way you do something you have to get your bosses permission as well as his boss and maybe even corporate
Pros
Nice benefit package (but expensive)
Cons
Unless you can walk on water you will never hear "good job"
Annual review is not worth the cyberspace it is written on
5 new managers in 1 1/2 years, all they care about is placing staff at work sites
Must work > 95 hours in 2 weeks to get comp time, company charges for OT and keep 100%
% 1 priority is company stock value.
Won't allow flip to client even after years of service.
Advice to Senior Management
Work on staff management, Say good job when a member has gone above and beyond.
Share the OT funds.
Pros
Okay place to start up your career or if you just want to get by.
Basic benefits but with co pays.
Good share purchase plan benefits.
Cons
Chances for advancement is possible but very long... You will have to be extremely patient.
Some projects just lag too far behind and you will be stuck if your project is on the lower end.
Management wait until problems become very big before reacting... then everyone will be affected.
Discrimination based on priority of projects. Advancement and pay obvoiusly becomes unbalanced.
Advice to Senior Management
Design new employee motivation techniques on the local level.
Need more proactive Managers on the local level aswell
Pros
Very smart people - leadership especially in Federal and State and Local
Good rewards - stock purchase is great
Proud to be part of CGI, history
Cons
CGI has yet to come to grips with the Commercial market. Need to invest and brand - likely need an acquisition
Advice to Senior Management
Figure out the commercial space - get in with some investment or get out.
Pros
Good benefits, Stock value has rose over the past few years, some cool peers. No office politics and a decent social club in the NYC office.
Cons
Bland industry, does not give you skills that will make you competitive in the industry. Annual reviews are worthless and will not give you leverage when trying to negotiate salary increases.
Pros
CGI is multinational company. As a big company you have ability to relocate in a place of your choice and a possibility to grow.
Cons
Salaries are not as good as some other companies in the industry
Advice to Senior Management
My advice would be in order to attract more talented people, CGI need to increase its compensations to match the big players on the market!
Pros
flexibility to work from home
Cons
never knowing when you will be terminated because they are not making their quarterly numbers
Advice to Senior Management
instead of focusing all the time on the profit, invest a little more in the members, treat them with respect.
Pros
CGI provides lots of opportunity for diverse work assignments. They have a wide variety of projects and customers and are very open to moving employees around to different projects.
Cons
CGI does very little to encourage a work-life balance. They have caps on vacation and comp time, and ofter require very long periods of time where taking vacation and comp time are not possible. This almost certainly leads to lost benefits. There are no real policies or practices related to doing your job. While in some cases, this could lead to very efficient small groups, in most cases is leads to varying degrees of poor management which puts the burden for success on the lowest level employee who is unwilling to tolerate failure.
Advice to Senior Management
Management, please do one of two things: either appropriately compensate and reward the superstars that keep you projects running, or reduce the burden and improve middle management such that the superstars needn't be heroes.
