    Pros

The best reason to work at CGI Federal is the people!

    Cons

The hardest thing is having to deal with yearly contract volatility, but that happens at any contract company.

I worked at CGI full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Slightly higher pay than that in comparable jobs in area as result of stipulation by the Federal Government Department letting the contract to this Contractor specializing in administrative services. Mostly able supervisors, although they were / presumably remain under pressure to generate production quantity / quotas even while theoretically maintaining Mission Statement's "highest product quality". Proficient co-workers. Modern, pleasant physical work environment.

    Cons

When - not if - flaws are discovered / obviously revealed unfortunately the blame flows directly from the very top to the very bottom of the organizational hierarchy with dire consequence for the base employee, with no credible effort made to explore, much less institute, possible, reasonable procedural adjustment(s) in order to mitigate future exposure to repetition of such. C G I's obsessive concern with simply retaining Federal contract(s) deters any willingness to consider / explore / propose reasonable, much less innovative / flexible, approach(s) toward enhancing the overall value of the service product it is providing. In fact C G I simply magnifies the extant Federal bureaucratic rigidity by imposing an additional layer of its own requirements above and beyond the Federal Department's as a means of providing procedural insulation for itself.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide credibility to employees by demonstrating willingness to confront Federal Department(s) with realities of production situations, which understandably evolve and lend themselves to possible improvement, even by means of practical, possibly innovative, suggestions from base employees who actually are performing the jobs.

    Pros

Great product distinguished from others on the market. Good benefits. Share purchase plan. Profit Sharing. Great management. Good people and community. Job stability. Processes are good.

    Cons

Typical consulting life, life on the road, full expenses paid. MOST projects require 100% travel, no way out of it. Pay is not competitive. Project time lines will be pushed out so they can meet their motto of being 100% on-time deliverable. Uncertainty for consultants who want more opportunity on more projects. Very UNCLEAR career path.

I worked at CGI as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

Multi-national solution provider of software systems.

    Cons

No one looking at the big picture.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

When rolling out a massive software system that requires a successful completion, like a government initiative, it is important to have the right people asking the right questions. Without an understanding of how the software applications will work and maintain security, the entire deployment becomes chaotic.

    Pros

not much . management is so disorganized , if you just keep quiet and fly under the radar you can earn a paycheck with doing very little actual work; like what happened on the healthcare debacle.

    Cons

management is filled with people who really dont know what they are doing. Thye get the job because they are yes-men , brown nosers to whoever gives them the job. It is very cliqueish and almost just like a high school scoial scene....

    yuck.
