    Pros

Good health care benefits, nice offices, interesting projects at company make job feel worth while. Always someone to help with facilities, safety, it issues

    Cons

Company doesn't not seem to promote from within. Raises are usually never above 4%, bonus is usually minimal ($500)

    Advice to Management

Give employees a monetary incentive to stay. Additional training opportunities for those in overhead positions would be appreciated

    Pros

I appreciate the fact there is open communication within groups and in the company overall. I sincerely enjoy the people with whom I work.

    Cons

A challenging year last year has worried employees and caused some great people to leave. I'm hopeful they come back to work, as I don't feel the challenges CH2M faces are any different than any other firm.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing the best you can for the firm.

    Pros

Many opportunities to get experience and responsibilities above what you might expect as a new graduate. Fairly good pay and progression, always at least the industry average. International opportunities and networking possibilities.

    Cons

Must be a self starter to progress. Despite being one of the UK’s biggest and most active engineering and professional services firms, it is lacking name recognition at the moment.

    Advice to Management

Investment in public relations in the United Kingdom could be better at a time when we are looking for new employees.

    Pros

Good people working for a company that is cutting benefits to offset too much overhead.

    Cons

Corporate managers trying to drive the bus with out a clear vision of the local roads.

    Advice to Management

Follow the yellow book. People closest to the action need to be empowered to make decisions. Reduce your pay and big bonus stock options - cut the non-value OH positions.

    Pros

CH was a special place to work with some of the best, brightest and nicest. Collegial place where you put up with some challenges in select groups knowing you were with a great company.

    Cons

Private equity investment is an indicator of many more problems than attrition and a couple of bad projects.

    Pros

I truly enjoyed working at CH2M my whole time there. I was in the Oil & Gas division which was a new venture for CH2M. They apparently bought up a number of companies like Trigon and Veco engineering to form their Oil & Gas division back in 2007. Great benefits and great management.

    Cons

Slow to get anything approved when Clients needed something fast. The problem is that they didn't know how to run an Oil & Gas company and weren't aggressive in finding work. Plus, CH2M is very top-heavy. There is so much overhead costs that it would cost clients so much more to use CH2M rather than another company. The status now is that the "Energy" division has been dissolved and the "Oil & Gas" division has little to no work and is about to fall apart.

    Advice to Management

Be more aggressive at finding work for your employees and Stop being so top-heavy

    Pros

Global Player, Nice Co-Workers, Large Federal Program. There was great opportunity for personal challenges on new projects.

    Cons

The company is very top heavy (non-billable, high salaries coming off the bottom line). Employees that have billable time are stars at this point, but a soon as the employee becomes unbillable, the employee is put on WLI (not stars anymore), in other words "NO PAY." The use of vacation time (PTO) is required when looking for other opportunities within the company. When a project finishes the employee can feel as if they are on an island, stranded and deserted. The company is about who you know to get work, even after many years of employment (this might be changing). On the Global mentality: the company is based in the USA and employee owned, yet it's next to impossible to get on an overseas project (other than Federal) for a USA citizen who is looking to stay billable.. this is due to company self imposed tax policies on US employees only. Also the company only wants non-US employees on there target overseas markets, unless your a Sr. Manager. Really restrictive management control of Projects\Programs; HR runs the show, they have the ability to overrule Project\Program Mangers decisions even if these decisions benefit the Project\Program. HR, especially with regards to Americans overseas is unorganized and unknowledgeable.. Management seems out of touch with employees. Company preaches mentoring and ethics, yet doesn't really stand behind their words. Management is not very proactive with clients, unless the company wants more work from the client.

    Advice to Management

Listen to employees, don't be afraid to take some risk. Get rid of the top heaviness that causes the need for high margins to pay Sr. Level Mangers salaries, but cuts the $15.00 dollar a hour receptionist. Treat the employees like family as it used to be, not like a number, as it is now, after all the company survives because of it's employees. Most importantly; Go back to the old values set out in the Yellow Book.. they worked!!!
