I have been working at CHC Helicopter full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Great pay and benefits. Its a job!

    Cons

Shift work, and hr is terrible. No set rules for employees and all managers can change what rules there are to what they think is right.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Set up a better HR dept and treat all employees the same.

    I worked at CHC Helicopter

    Pros

Industry, Transformation, Upcoming IPO, Pay and Benefits, Experienced Professional Employees

    Cons

HR leadership, HR is slow to get things done because all decision making is done too far up and within the COE's. If you get on their bad side nothing gets done.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Retain good employees.

I have been working at CHC Helicopter full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Pay is really good and the benefits are standard.

    Cons

Time off is lacking a little and the shift work is a little much sometimes with short handed staffing issues.

I worked at CHC Helicopter full-time

    Pros

Flexible work hours, decent benefits, for the most part good people work here.

    Cons

Poor upper management, unapproachable CEO - if he doesn't like someone, they're gone.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

instead of laying off regular staff, give the CFO and CEO etc pay-cuts. The regular staff do the work anyway! Get Managers who actually care about staff versus the bottom line. Don't lie to staff; when things are bad, tell them, don't pretend all is OK and then secretly lay staff off. It doesn't boost morale and you lose good staff instead.

HR is awful. With the exception of a few good apples, the majority of staff in that department are only nice to people who can 'get them somewhere.' You need better, more approachable HR staff.

I worked at CHC Helicopter as a contractor for more than 3 years

    Pros

A job leading to a better job elsewhere. Attain the knowledge and processes, and then move on to another aviation company; somewhere where you can grow, and where dedication may lie.

Whatever salary you ask for goes into scrutiny; they counter-offer of course. In the end, you have to stand your ground and challenge yourself.

    Cons

Every day can be the challenge, unexpected layoffs or redundancy. Don't buy into the stocks the company offers because there is no real incentive, and it may turn out to be much like the BC Government fiasco of "BCRIC" shares once offered to British Columbians.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Wake up and smell the aroma of some (finely brewed European) coffee.

I worked at CHC Helicopter full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Pay is on time. Good benefits.

    Cons

Infested with the buddy stystem. One does not advance do to ability but through who you know.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have been working at CHC Helicopter full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

The largest offshore helicopter operator in the world with a clear stated aim to be the best.

    Cons

The middle management ( of old school ) do not wish to change and accept that employees have rights and protection under the company code of conduct, operations manuals etc.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make a supreme effort to get accurate information from the people at the other far end of the company and act on that to change middle management to proper leaders and motivators.

    Cons

    Extremely high workload at times

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide additional Management and Training experience in the field to optimize operations

I worked at CHC Helicopter full-time

    Pros

    Not small company.
Enabling employees to get access into aviation industry.
Very nice environment, close to walking trail and nature.

    Cons

People to survive here should have certain ability to argue and fight. It is not because this company has any issue. More likely it is because it is a operator/MRO, when a customer is complaining that there is no aircraft to fill a scheduled fly, everyone got crazy...

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Maybe sale or let independent the MRO functions.

I have been working at CHC Helicopter

    Pros

Good pay, good co-workers, descent location. Benefits are really good and you can purchase an additional weeks vacation through your fex benefits.

    Cons

The company has not set up career planning of any sort. You could very well be in the same position for 5 or more years.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start helping people build thier career with the company. The work ethic and talent within the company is high. Consultants and the hiring of additional Senior Managment is not the answer for everything.
