Advice to Senior Management

Pros
CIBC offers laid back environment
Cons
For person who wants to work in fast paced environment CIBC is not the place.
Pros
Great challenges, always lots of interesting work
Cons
Very toronto centric approach to running the business
Advice to Senior Management
Out additional resources where needed - at the front line and eliminate the top heavy infrastructure in Toronto
Pros
There's a CIBC on every corner !
Cons
Dictatorship. Way too many meetings discussing the same issues over and over, all day, every day. It staff were treated with as much respect as CIBC's clients, I could then possibly say I am proud to work for CIBC. Too many meetings, not enough face time with clients. I get tired of hearing about LLR, Revenue, growth, losses, why can't we discuss important things that we can use to service and sell clients, to build relationship CIBC asks of us. We spend most of our days tracking, and explaining and reporting and discussing. You hired us, so trust us. We are the ones dealing with clients, trust us to do that. Fix the systems! This is 2011 ! Extreme pressure from the top down, without recognition, without respect, without reason. We all know we are being paid by CIBC, we don't need it shoved in our faces day after day. We are all human and regardless of employee's position or tenure, we must be treated with respect.
Advice to Senior Management
Remind those you hire--- respect MUST BE mutual. Just because someone makes better money, has a higher position, and has company perks, does not make them a better or more deserving human. CIBC said it.......Teamwork, Trust, Accountability.....sometimes I do not believe this applies to everyone. I have worked way too many years outside of CIBC and within to be treated as someone who needs to be led by the hand, day in and day out. This is the first organization that I can honestly say.. I see a very domineering, arogant, chain of command, who feel they are way more important than the work-horses below them.
Pros
job stability, good management, flexibility in scheduling and personal time, the aspects of the job itself can really enhance your skillset in terms of knowledge in financial planning, multi tasking, sales and customer service
Cons
for the workload and constant job requirements/pressure, compensation is not adequate. Management is good, however forced to push you as a result of higher management with a theme of "what have you done for me today/this week"
Advice to Senior Management
push for competitive salary for those who are bringing results to the branch/district regardless of tenure. Too much emphasis on job/company tenure.
Pros
Good job security and quite stable, employees are diversified
Cons
But it has difficulty to attract talented people within the industry. Senior management in some area push too hard for people to deliver.
Advice to Senior Management
Improved leadership and role model instead of pushing the employees too hard. And better benefits package
Pros
canadian culture is the best
Cons
laid back sometimes, people are relax
Advice to Senior Management
be more aggressive in expanding overseas
Pros
Job security, professional people, great benefits and discounts. They have no problem hiring from within and you can easily move up the ladder if you apply yourself and take extra courses.
Cons
The hours can be a bit demanding, and getting home at a decent dinner hour is sometimes difficult if you have late appointments or unfinished paperwork.
Advice to Senior Management
I always had wonderful branch managers, although, they sometimes seemed a bit stresses out and over worked.
Pros
Room for mobility
Job security
Challenging roles
Cons
Rigid hierarchy makes it more difficult for younger employees to make upward moves.
Pros
Challenging work, great group of peers that you can learn from.
Cons
Snr Management is a challenge - no focus on how to grow the business, Product groups run the business
Advice to Senior Management
Product groups have a role to play but they should not be driving what the front line is doing from day to day. Its always about selling the latest or greatest instead of foucsing on meeting the needs of the clients
