Pros
Benefits
vacation
tight knit group of co-workers
Cons
Managers saying they want to help you grow but nothing actually being done to help.
Lack of support from senior management.
Unrealistic expectations from employees at all levels.
Advice to Senior Management
In order to support the people you are managing you need to be able to do their role. It is very difficult to support an employee when you have no idea what they do.
Pros
-Lots of opportunity to find a department that matches your interest
-Good benefits, non-contributory pension
-Good work is generally rewarded
Cons
-Too much baggage from previous mistakes and writedowns, makes it tough to say you are proud to work for the organization
Advice to Senior Management
-Given the aggresive growth targets across all departments, please ensure top performers are properly compensated and rewarded.
Pros
Non management employees work extremely hard, employees on the front line want to help the clients, benefits are reasonable, good clients
Cons
Senior management are unaware or choose to ignore the problems within the organization resulting from to many mid level managers trying to run their own shows at odds with overall strategy. Constantly changing initiatives to chase the newest flavor of the day rather then a constant strategy to rally behind. Company focus on the dollars at expense of client experience then they choose to measure you for performance on the poor client feedback. Unrealistic demands on the sales people that require them to give up a work and lifestyle balance. No ability to manage rather you take direction from the market offices at a micro management level.
Advice to Senior Management
Review your mid level and low level executives and actually clean out the deadwood. Do a realistic employee survey that asks the real and difficult questions that will enable real change to occur. Don't sacrifice your senior managers for higher level problems and incompetence...the managers have no control in reality. Stop burning through your long term employees as your experience level is falling rapidly
Pros
nice coworkers, family-oriented atmosphere. training is good. promoted within.
Cons
over-time without pay, working long hours to make sales calls, sacrifice of personal life
low salaries compared to other major banks. too much meetings talking about the same thing over and over again. Marketing strategies is average.
Advice to Senior Management
should come up with innovative products in the market, instead of changing just the minor details of a campaign and announce it as some totally new enhancement of a new marketing strategy. Raise compensation on all roles, as we work lots of overtime without pay. Incentives on meeting sales quotas is a joke, we do need want a set of movie tickets or just some aeromile points for working overtime and meet the numbers. We need extra cash.
Pros
The working hours are decent.
Cons
There is little recognition on the retail side of the business. Senior management is always asking for more and not compensating for the extra effort given.
Advice to Senior Management
Need more focus on process and policy. Clients are not upset at the quality of the personal service they receive in branch, rather, they dislike having to jump through hoops to get anything out of the ordinary done, and (in terms of business banking) day-to-day banking done.
Pros
good hours
good locations at many places
managers are usually nice to new empolyees. Upper managements are very open as well.
good work life balance
Cons
pay is low
not well known outside of canada
wish they have more benefits for employees
not many US grads here
Advice to Senior Management
it is ok to focus on canada but you guys should definitely look into asia becuase that's where the new opportunity comes, cibc needs to make a stronger name there
Pros
work load is ok , colleagues are nice,
Cons
pay is so so compare with other banks
benefit is terrible,
company is not well managed
too much politics
some business people is rude
Advice to Senior Management
should improve the management skill
Pros
Above average pay in comparison to its peer groups
Good work-life balance, additional attractive benefits
Easy job to learn and master
Good location, all types of transportation are available
Incentive based pat scheme
Cons
A lot of repetitive call types, becomes boring and uneventful
Management is very micro-managed, treat employees literally like children that need to be monitored consistently
All the effort it takes to generate sales, revenues for the bank, little reward in return( bonuses)
Difficult to advance within, unless you know someone in a higher grade level position, in which you may be referred
Advice to Senior Management
Micro-managing will not lead to employee productivity, it will only lead to low employee morale and undue pressure for its workers. We are capable individuals who understand what is expected of us, and we don't need to be reminded of that constantly, it only annoys us and irritates us.
Pros
- You can learn alot from the people around you in IT
- Hours are decent, no one expects too much from you
- It's a decent place to work.
Cons
- My manager shouldn't have ever been hired to manage people. But she would have been amazing at managing just a process
- Compared to other companies, CIBC doesn't pay very well for annual salar, even though they continually tell you how lucky you are to get paid "so much"
Pros
CIBC has many great employees and clients. The CIBC brand holds solid history in Canada.
Cons
Unfortunately the leaders in CIBC have a continued history of lack of respect for employees. This is often demonstrated by the non existent training given to employees,as well as the extensive overtime that is still largely donated by an employee. The unreasonable sales targets assigned through a Head Office model often lead to year over non achievement which then leads to non payment of bonuses and low performance ratings including for long tenured valuable employees who have solid work ethics who go above and beyond to serve clients and endeavor to achieve individually assigned targets.
Advice to Senior Management
The inability to deal with key issues such as retention of valuable employees is completely related to the local market leaders who are driven by the bottom line over clients and employees
Politics and segment strife within local market leader areas is not professional and in many urban locations has carried on for years. CIBC has such a poor reputation that often key roles are not replaced when a vacancy occurs for months. The lack of management and key senior leader internal promotions is another example of the low regard HR has for existing employees.
