Pros
It is a wholesome corporation that is trying hard to increase market share and results. It is a respectable company and makes employees proud to work for them,
Cons
Career advancement is not made easy nor encouraged. CIBC prefers to keep employees at current positions rather than help them advance onto other positions or departments.
Advice to Senior Management
Management needs to encourage career advancement and development. Management also needs to understand that by trying to retain employees by discouraging advancement or by simply blocking them on an HR level is not a profitable outcome for leadership as employees tend to lose interest or motivation.
Pros
the benefits are outstanding, you get full medical, dental, no banking fees, reduced rates on loans and credit cards, and you get a profit share. Also you get a great bonus in cash at the end of each year.
Cons
Most of the time you will get overloaded of work, the stress levels are extremely high, and its very demanding in keeping your calm.
Advice to Senior Management
Be positive, and calm, be goal oriented to employees and team work, never raise your voice, and always seek feedback if you are not sure on how to deal with a situation.
Pros
Flexible part time hours.
Lots of locations to work.
Good exposure to different kinds of attitudes.
Helps give a basic understanding of banking world.
Cons
Management play(ed) favorites.
Not flexible for time off [for studies]
Company is not proactive in developing talent
Company is bad at retention of student employees (I now work at RBCCM)
Pros
Best regional boss possible with fair income and good benefit with bonus packages. Good working environment for long term employment.
Cons
Long hours were the norm but that was okay by me. Working for large corporate was not as enjoyable as a smaller company
Advice to Senior Management
Keep it up. Looses up risk profiles a bit and growth will come quickly. Good online presence makes sense today
Pros
great benifits, good staff moral, great leadership, good people that promote work life balance, tried to work extra hours to be exceptional as i come from a large city work ethic and they told me to go home, i couldnt believe what i heard
Cons
salary compared to other banks for same position, technology well behind
Advice to Senior Management
keep salary in line with other banks as its far to easy to go across the street
Pros
It fosters professional development however they are very strict with punctuality. Moreover, great opportunities for work life balances with several programs such as fitness on site, charity events, diversity events and fundraising.
Cons
Very strict attendance. High targets are also employed. Also, the parking is an issue here. There is no parking available at all. It is also the lowest paying bank
Advice to Senior Management
Make it more of a family environment. Allow for more career development and input on to processes. Also increase wages to motivate employees.
Pros
Good manager at the branch that I am working at. The manager is very willing to teach me although I know that this is not the case in all the branch.
Cons
Upper management is stupid, they always implement changes that does not make sense. In order to compete with other FIs, they create the stupidest policies. Example: only home branch account opening will count as sales... serving IBB clients does not help you meet target. Is that stupid and yet they want us to provide excellent customer service.. hahaha good luck IBB clients, I need to ensure that I serve home branch clients only :)
Advice to Senior Management
All products regardless of CMS should generate LLR. If CIBC want to be leader in customer service, this should be the first step to ensuring that staff will be willing to serve them & not ignoring them.
Pros
challenge satisfied harmony comfortable funny
Cons
stressful low salary tight long working time
Advice to Senior Management
nothing
Pros
I found the people I worked with, i.e., my co-workers, to have high caliber moral and integrity. During the time I worked there - it was like a familial relationship.
Cons
Lack of presence in the US. CIBC is largely a Canadian company and their US presence is minimal.
Advice to Senior Management
To be more communicative of changes and challenges at the company.
Pros
Enjoyable workplace, very friendly co workers, cheerful, motivated people and strong leadership among colleagues. As said before in my review headline, CIBC is a place of opportunity, you will learn a lot. It is not just a simple job, it is a FUN career!
Cons
There are actually none for now, although CIBC could possibly improve on installing better desks and chairs for the employees. Besides that, everything is just perfect!!!
Advice to Senior Management
The managers are great at CIBC, they are all doing their job and they respect everyone in the industry. Very friendly, patient and approachable. Any questions we have regarding work, they could answer it with ease and perfection until your understand.
