I have been working at CIBC full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Employee banking perks, commercial banking training program, room for growth

    Cons

Its easy to get overwhelmed by processes and procedures.. especially after being hired in from a smaller business. Computer systems are archaic to say the least. Windows XP and Office 2013 lol

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There should be more flexibility for individuals looking to move around within the bank. It shouldnt be easier to switch FIs that to switch between business units within the same organization.

I worked at CIBC full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good pay at market rate, work life balance. Systematic reporting tools, good report planning. Will not just focus on english presentation but rather on the material (meat) of the reports.

    Cons

Staff relationship not good, no staff gathering, very separate but yet no gossiping (which is good)
One bad thing is the corporate title is a lot higher than the title in your reference letter (reference check), such as a Senior Finance Manager title used everyday but when you left, they reported you as a Senior Financial Analyst. So your current employer may think you lied about your title in the resume.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Should not outsource your HR too much, very hard to control views and performance.
Should align corporate title and title recorded in the HR system (where you get your reference check) and the HR system is outsourced.

I have been working at CIBC

    Pros

Lots of opportunity for promotion if you can achieve aggressive targets/expectations. They offer training programs for certain roles.

    Cons

The company believes in micromanagement, but calls it supportive leadership. Very high expectations, especially with support roles being eliminated over time. Work, life balance is very challenging, especially in leadership roles. Bonus structure complicated and hard to predict.

I have been working at CIBC full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good people, nice schedule. The training is really good and you can feel that the management care about it.

    Cons

High pressure, bad software (compass the new software is new and it show) and sadly and most importantly : low salary for fsr2. However it you're able to achieve your goal (hello breakaway) you can be promote pretty fast.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Cibc is a good company for achieving your goals if you're willing to work with a lot of pressure.

I have been working at CIBC as a contractor for more than a year

    Pros

if you have seniority you are king

    Cons

Senior management cares about their bonus and their bonus only. An ex-team member of mine really wanted me on his team when he got promoted but our ex-director who became his director wanted to keep me on contract to save money because it was near year end and they needed to meet budget for their bonuses. Even though he gave me a job offer she rescinded it for her selfish purposes. They extended my 3 month contract 4 times instead of offering me a full time position "due to budget issues"

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    learn to care.
