Pros
It fosters professional development however they are very strict with punctuality. Moreover, great opportunities for work life balances with several programs such as fitness on site, charity events, diversity events and fundraising.
Cons
Very strict attendance. High targets are also employed. Also, the parking is an issue here. There is no parking available at all. It is also the lowest paying bank
Advice to Senior Management
Make it more of a family environment. Allow for more career development and input on to processes. Also increase wages to motivate employees.
Pros
challenge, wild range, analyze, activities
Cons
satisfactions, environment, working hours, people
Pros
Flexible schedule
Lots of locations to apply
Decent benefits
Employee share purchase program
Don't have crazy long operating hours (unlike TD Bank)
Cons
Too many systems to use, and some of them are quite old
Still using dot matrix printers...seriously
Targets are getting a little crazy for 2012, but I doubt this is unique when compared to the other banks.
Advice to Senior Management
Most managers I've worked for are great to work for.
Pros
job security and location of work place was good since it was down town, laid back attitude about work in the team i worked for
Cons
too much politics, compensation wasn't too great, but mostly the politics got to be and i quit - not very inclusive team (just my experience)
Pros
Ok compensation and good benefits (including stock purchase plan)
Job security
Downtown location is convenient
Free banking a bonus
Tech devices provided (e.g. BB)
Cons
Bank’s reputation is poor compared to competitors and is poorly led at the most senior levels (no vision)
Caustic internal culture (open antagonism between teams)
Work life balance for top performers is not there and contribution not recognized
Very political internally
Overly bureaucratic and risk adverse in areas that don’t matter and not enough in areas that do
Compensation not a good as competitors
Advice to Senior Management
Support and provide recognition to top performers
To the board…sack the CEO and other Sr. Executives and find someone with a vision for growing the business, so it isn’t always a matter of catching up to competitors
Pros
Don't necessarily have to leave the company to find new jobs progress in expertise and career (which you often have to do in smaller companies).
Solid benefits package; reasonable termination package.
Cons
Particularly mediocre culture of late; however, there are always bright lights, thank goodness.
Very few make it to retirement...CIBC known on the street for constant downsizing...not inspiring for those who are the "survivors".
Advice to Senior Management
Consistent investment in people, particularly new managers. Consistently demonstrate respect for people at ALL levels of the organization and live the values particularly regarding change management. Pay attention to the untracked, longterm cost of your typical short term cost control -- "throwing people out".
Pros
The workplace was not crowded.
Cons
Does not offer advancement due to internal politics.
Advice to Senior Management
Do personal interviews with staff assuring them that confidentiality will be maintained. Rotate senior management and middle management frequently.
Pros
location
free banking
large corporation that in theory should have opportunity to grow
current department has a relaxed work environment that allows for a fair work/life balance
Cons
- no investment in employee growth - courses etc - both in house and 3rd party
- us vs them attitidue - sr management towards mid level managers and employees - lines of communication seem to be closed
- compensation seems to be lower than competitors
- not a dynamic environment in that cibc seems to always be playing catch-up vs it's competitors
- opportunities seem to bottleneck and sr management does not seem to have a desire in holding onto quality employees
Advice to Senior Management
the people make the business work. investing in their growth and their skills will help grow the business. having an organic approach to people and the business can go a long way in fostering relationships with employees and creating a dynamic environment where all ideas and inputs are respected and listened to.
Pros
Good hours
Lots of stat holidays
Cons
Low pay
Rotten Management
Just a game of feeding on the poor
Advice to Senior Management
Treat the customers and people in need as if they were real people and not just a number
Pros
good imperial service offer to clients
Cons
too muc exoected from employees- jack of all trades rather than specializing in one area.
Advice to Senior Management
really need to spend money to upgrade systems and heavy learning curve for some employees
