Former Employee – worked at CIGNA Behavioral Health
Pros – If you have a degree in psychology and can not find any other job then it will pay the bills. It is the kind of job that you can make look pretty good on a resume but it is brutal to work there. The only up side is there is no take home work, just the psychological damage. As long as you have half a brain you can do the job so it is a good place to work while you job hunt.
Cons – You are tied to a phone the whole time, regardless of what they tell you during the interview. It is a very micromanagement kind of place. They actually monitor how long you are off the phone so you can see how many bathroom breaks you average. If you are more than 15 minutes late for work it is considered a half day towards your PTO.
Advice to Senior Management – Train some monkeys and let them do that mind numbing job.

Former Employee – worked at CIGNA Behavioral Health
Pros – It was challenging position for a mental health professional and better compensation than private practice.
Cons – Management lacked the necessary skills to really support employees.
Advice to Senior Management – Get your management appropriate leadership training. Being a trained therapist does not necessitate one has the skills to be an excellent leader.

Current Employee – been working at CIGNA Behavioral Health
Pros – Great for work / life balance.
Cons – Very political atmosphere, a lot of redundant activities and despite suggestions for better alignment with groups doing similar work, change is slow, if even correct. I have worked here for a while and average "departmental" reorganization about every 6 months for the past several years, each time my position getting farther away from those who are like me.
Advice to Senior Management – You say you are open to hear about improvements, but immediate managers may not entirely support that, and would rather people just do as they are told. I think a bit of first order change is required. There is a real culture problem. Additionally, there are too many layers of managers.

Current Employee – been working at CIGNA Behavioral Health
Pros – Most positions, aside from those in the call center, allow for flexible scheduling. You can basically choose your own schedule as long as it's consistent from day to day. Also, you can "purchase" up to five additional days of vacation each year, and new employees start off with 18 PTO days a year.
Cons – There are few chances for professional growth, unless you have a clinical background. And even then, senior management is run very politically.
Advice to Senior Management – You have innovative ideas on how to offer unique products to the marketplace, but you fail to invest in everyday maintenance and necessary upgrades of our standard operational databases. We identify system issues but we always hear that there are no IT resources to fix the problems. This is frustrating, and contributes to low employee morale.

Current Employee – been working at CIGNA Behavioral Health
Pros – It's innovative and leadership is excellent. You get the feeling that the leadership is taking the company in the right direction with the right strategy.
Cons – Like all big companies there is a lot of red tape for moving around and getting things done between all the different departments.
Advice to Senior Management – Lighten up on constraints around career progression. A person should not have to be in a position for a full year before doing something else if they are qualified and the opportunity presents itself.
