Advice to Senior Management
Keep doing what you're doing!
Pros
Understands life/family issues. No fear of losing job.
Cons
Big company. Hard to get noticed.
Pros
If you get a good territory, the job really isn't that hard and with so much money being in Insurance you can make a lot of money. No real cold calling, and once you establish yourself in the broker community you don't have to do much to sustain yourself.
Cons
Timing is key. It depends on what territories are available in your area. If there are more experienced reps already there, you have to wait until they leave.
Advice to Senior Management
I think that they do a good job with supporting their sales team. I never had any issues with management. In fact, I think that they supported me whenever I needed it.
Pros
Decent Pay for Entry Level Position.
A large amount of Personal Days.
Co-workers are for the most part easy to work with.
The managers are for the most part good people, they just have their hands tied with the upper management.
Cons
Upper Management is more concerned about numbers than their employees.
Very strict about bathroom breaks when you're on the phone.
The actual product of the Home Delivery Pharmacy often makes mistakes with patient's orders, putting the Customer Service Reps in a tough position on the phone.
Policies are always changing without notifying the employees, which makes it hard to keep track of.
Upper Management provides no incentives when they force more responsibilities on your plate.
They do not adjust your call metrics when you are provided with more responsibilities that make it almost impossible to keep up.
Since employees are treated as numbers, the atmosphere in the workplace is less than ideal.
Advice to Senior Management
Treat your employees as people instead of as machines. In return you will probably see a better result in the customer's satisfaction of your service. Your low-tier managers are usually good people. Get their input when you change your policies instead of completely ignoring them. You may see an increase in positivity in your workplace. Also stop constantly changing your procedures and policies. Your customer service reps cannot do an adequate job when they have no firm base to stand out. Stick with a set of policies for a given period of time and then figure out whether or not you need to change them.
Pros
. People, who care more than management
. Opportunity to move around within the company
Cons
. HR who is in the pocket of mgmt
. IT Senior and Mid level mgmt who are busy creating bureaucracy instead of promoting collaboration
. Poor university hire and emerging leader program, seen a lot of promising Gen Y and Nexters disappointed and no support system
. Not open to new ways of thinking
Advice to Senior Management
Get rid of VP's and Sr. director's who have been there for over 25 years and only believe in standing up kingdom's
Pros
Work / Life Balance
Working from Home
Cons
Pay
Promotion opportunities
Overwork without rewards
No bonuses for certain employees
Pros
CIGNA is a leader in the healthcare / insurance business and as such it is challenging to not only shape and mold the company but an entire industry.
Cons
Government regulations and state mandates are "killing" the health insurance industry. Regulated profit margins under Health Care Reform will likely add to the pressures on the industry.
Many employees are 20+ years with CIGNA and therefore there is little opportunity to grow into new roles and responsibilities as a result of attrition.
Advice to Senior Management
Hire more employees and fewer "contractors". Long term contractors who receive 40+% higher pay and are not accountable to the company in the same way employees are causing morale issues.
Pros
Good opportunities for advancement. Pay is fair. Educational reimbursement program is top-notch. Rewards for success are very good and praise is easy to come by if you do a good job.
Cons
The benefits package offered to CIGNA employees is not good at all. They like to try out the newest things on us. After you've been at CIGNA for a while, the merit increases don't keep up with the level of work expected. You have to leave and come back to get a decent raise.
