I worked at CMC ICOS Biologics full-time

    Pros

The people are dedicated and the strength of the company.

    Cons

always putting out fires, no proactive approach to anything that cost money, Leadership team is worried about bottom line not the people

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you want your surveys to be more green then listen to your people and don't try to fool them with false promises. Managing people through threats doesn't create longevity, commitment, or trust.

I worked at CMC ICOS Biologics full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Some of the people are knowledgable and fun to work with.

    Cons

From site head on down, expectations of staff are unrealistic. Pay is average. You will be expected to work any hours of their whim, to fix preventable problems caused by lack of foresight, unwillingness to invest in quality equipment, and enough staff to do the job adequately. The stress of it will eat at you until you either quit or are fired, which they do at the drop of a hat for small mistakes or speaking against management's directives.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I don't have any. It's that bad. It's not one person making CMC awful. It's endemic across every member of upper management. My only advice is to any and all job seekers- you will be sorry you signed up to work here. Move on.

I worked at CMC ICOS Biologics (more than 3 years)

    Pros

I got a lot out of working here but ultimately had to pay too high a-price for it. CMC has tons of opportunities for hungry, competent people who are willing to work hard. The kind of place where you can get things on your resume. The people are great provided they stay for any significant amount of time (most people don't).

    Cons

They will run you into the ground and not pay you very much for the privilege. Some groups are run on intimidation and bullying. Upper management is generally concerned with inflating the value of the company for sale and not much else which leads to very short-sighted decisions that are ultimately costing more. I'm not sure what the business outlook is but I know the morale outlook is terrible. Serious employee retention problems as well, and suffering from a lack of organizational memory.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I heard the C-level talk for years about how important people were to them. Never saw anything in their actions that reflected that, quite the opposite.

I worked at CMC ICOS Biologics full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

People enduring hardship tend to stick together.

    Cons

The directors and senior management are starving the company of resources, causing systematic failures and low personnel morale. This is due to the focus on improving the bottom line, which looks good to prospective buyers for the site.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Rethink the pending sale of the company and focus on sustainable growth for the future.

    Pros

Small company trying to carve out a name for themselves. They do a lot of small gestures to reward employees for all the hard work they put in.

    Cons

Working there you will wear multiple hats, to be successfull you will have to know how to priortize your work accordingly.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There is an interesting dynamic between the departments, it isn't clear that they are all marching to the same drum.

I worked at CMC ICOS Biologics

    Pros

Most of the people are friendly and easy to work with.
My group was one of the "better" groups to work with.
I learned a lot about what NOT to do in future jobs.

    Cons

Most of the people are incompetent and are unwilling to change the broken system.
There are too many cliques and "old-timers"... no new blood.
    High turn over.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Work/LIfe Balance should apply to all of the employees at CMC... not just the full time employees.
Be more open to change... even if it will end up being more work in the early stages.
The employees who talk the loudest don't always have the best answers. Listen to your options... even if the person suggesting them doesn't have 15 years of seniority.

    Pay is pretty good
    Benefits are very good
Commute is good if you live in area
    Cooperation of most co-workers
    Location

    Cons

Management only cares about bottom line
Performance reviews based on company wide goals not individual achievements
    Turnover is high
Work/Life Balance is the worst I have ever experienced

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I worked at CMC ICOS Biologics

    Pros

The people there are nice and there is good work/life balance. It is also one of the few biotechs in the Seattle area that is doing manufacturing, so there aren't a lot of other places to work in the area if this is your preferred job type.

    Cons

Raises and promotions are pretty much nonexistent since the company was purchased. No stock options or other way to share in the success of the business, just a steady paycheck. Low morale due to sale of company and massive layoffs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Find a way to pay your employees a competitive wage and give them opportunities for advancement.
