I have been working at CMC Markets full-time

    Pros

-there are nice and good people around all business units (globally) -decent salary and career progression for fresh grads -pro-business and pro-clients -good platform with global asset classes (fresh grads can learn about many asset classes rather than just forex or stockbroking ,for example) -objective driven culture with very responsible and hands-on Head of the office who is on the ground working with staff across all levels -good culture of providing training and guidance across all staff levels (if you ask, you will get it, there will always people who don't ask but expect people to read their minds; unfortunately the latter will not benefit) -excellent culture of constantly trying to improve things around (globally) -good HR support with straight-talking people around -fast-paced and great communication and feedback channels -feedback gets taken seriously with positive changes -good employee benefits (relative to the CFD industry) -senior management leads by example, providing support and guidance -not as political compared to local broking houses, local banks and other CFD houses -small office in Singapore so result oriented attitude gets visible attention, no boot-licking required for self-driven producers -very "transparent" office, so staff with negative attributes/ attitudes will be noticed easily -fast-paced so no time for idling so generally no laziness lurking around the office - compensation is sensible (good for the company but very ambitious and money driven staff have to look elsewhere) -stable company -good place for driven people -there has been lots of changes but all for the interest of the business ( not a place for people who can't adapt)

    Cons

    - generally there will be political or disgruntled personalities in every company so best advice to fresh grads/ or job seekers: find a job with compensation to match your contribution to the company. Discuss your remuneration expectations BEFORE you sign your contract. Don't grumble or incessantly complain about compensation or people around the office, change your own attitude and approach to life OR if you are unhappy resign and work somewhere that you are at peace with yourself and everyone. If you think you are worth more than what you are getting paid, move on and progress elsewhere but do not breed negativity within yourself and environment. - definitely not a place for lazy people who are just watching the clock and surfing the web to kill time ( Cons for lazy people but it's a positive for normal people) -(again cons for lazy bosses)- if you think you can delegate your work to your staff and do nothing, then this is not the place for you due to hands-on culture in CMC Markets.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work in expanding the business, encouraging workplace positivity & continue to compensate performers & contributors well in order to retain talent.

I have been working at CMC Markets full-time

    Pros

Free cereal, entertaining office politics, mostly nice people, going through a good time at the moment - long may it continue. Even if you don't get a bonus during your time there, you'll probably get redundancy or an exit package. Work life balance depends on which department you are in, if revenue generating then staffing within your team will be sufficient so you can leave around 5pm. There have been some cracking expensive parties of late. Yeehah!

    Cons

When the good times end, then beginneth the blood bath. Long history of rapid expansion and excess followed by severe culls. Hire and fire culture. If you're offered a glass office don't accept the poisoned chalice - senior management tend to just disappear one day, never to be seen in the CMC building again. Some of the management team have been promoted by default because their boss got the chop in the last wave of culls. They know their necks are on the chopping block next leading to a culture of fear. Unfortunately some of them resort to passive aggressive/bullying behaviour as many earlier reviews testify. During the interview process you would be wise to enquire as to why your predecessor(s) and previous team members left. I witnessed talented and hard working people being ground down by certain managers infamous for their deceptively charming facade and penchant for Teflon. As in any organisation, the majority of people are decent human beings but there are a few rotters to be avoided. Back office functions are understaffed so expect to be working of an evening. No working from home so you'll need to take annual leave to wait in for deliveries and repairs/services.

    Advice to Management

Look after your staff and train managers in effective leadership methods.
