Pros
Good people, good company and good benefits to a certain degree.
Cons
Not a lot of opportunities for growth for certain positions.
Advice to Senior Management
Take advantage of some of the people that you may have. Some people may have talents where their position prevents them from being noticed.
Pros
Decent pay, great benefits, especially retirement, cheap health insurance, fun coworkers.
Cons
Very stressful and poor flexibility. Occurrence policy is unrealistic for those with families. No job share or part time schedule options. Business core hours fairly fixed = inflexible. A lot of favoritism and projects given to the chosen few, leaving promotion difficult to attain among the rest. Each manger is allocated a pool of funds for merit increases to use at their discretion so it's not uniform among the department, varies based on manager.
Advice to Senior Management
Enforce the dress policy as intended across the building. Some departments have higher expectations than others, depending on your manager. Stop allocating busy work to the same people, at least spread it out among the team. Offer fair compensation based on measurable attributes and not at the whim of the managers.
Pros
Their training program is structured in such a way that you are given time to learn the basics of the business before you are swamped with tremendous responsibility. All of the senior management I worked with were very knowledgeable people who were interested in working with you. Each of my mentors routinely went out of their way to help me on certain issues on more than one occasion. Salaries and benefits were competitive as well.
Cons
External factors related to the industry are some difficult.
Advice to Senior Management
Continue the forward looking trend that has been exhibited over the last two years or so. Expanding in to international business prospects while strengthening the internal systems is a very wise direction.
Pros
- co workers were friendly
Cons
- management is ok, but not receptive
Advice to Senior Management
- be choosy in who who hire as branch managers
Pros
offered good compensation & benefits; provided pretty good training program. the people in the upper rank were generally helpful and friendly (at least those that i've encountered)
Cons
work can be quite stressful at times since the competition was quite severe even though help were available most of the time
Advice to Senior Management
continue to offer great compensation and benefits to employees because it's mostly what keep people there and develop loyalty to the company
Pros
The leaders of the company are approachable and down to earth, while also very knowledgeable. The opportunities for carrer advancement are plentiful and the workplace environment is great.
Cons
There are times when you might fell "tied to your desk". Continuity between the seperate branch offices is sometimes lacking.
Advice to Senior Management
Continue with CNA Surety's conservative approach during these tougher economic times.
Pros
well run and senior mangement.
Cons
The chain of command. culture.
Advice to Senior Management
shorten the chain of command. allow branch people to run their respective branch's
