Think Twice Before Accepting A Position

I have been working at CNIC

    Pros

Unfortunately, CNIC doesn't have anything positive to offer.

    Cons

I accepted a position at CNIC HQ a few months ago and have regretted it ever since. The overall morale is low because management doesn't support or trust their people. By the way, management don't trust each other either.

Micromanaging is rampant and employees must constantly report their every move. This hinders creativity and causes job dissatisfaction. Participation in the command climate survey was encouraged, but management continues to ingore complaints or suggestions for improvement by employees, which makes me believe they don't care about raising morale (so what' the point of an annual command climate survey?).

I am a proud professional; I have my master's degree and have worked in my field for 7 years. I have always been a star performer and productivity is my goal, but micromanaging my every move is degrading. Management doesn't think twice of threatening or bullying their employees. Management advices their employees to "be tough", which basically implies to take their abuse.

Sick leave is one of the many benefits of being a government employee, but management discourages anyone for calling in sick even if it's legitimate. Also, even if it violates privacy, management doesn't approve annual leave without providing details (why and where).

If you think that "it takes an act of Congress to fire a government employee", think again. In the last 3 years, 5 employees have been terminated or were force to retire. Most of them were women, minorities and over 50 + years of age with at least 25 years of civil service (hhhmmm....I see a pattern here - possible age discrimination).

Further, because of budget cuts, CNIC established an FTE (full time equivalent) cap or hiring freeze. Therefore, there's no opportunity for promotion even at the headquarter level. Please think twice before coming to CNIC HQ. This place is one big disaster - management is crazy, morale is low and almost everyone that I've spoken to is looking for another job. There are better subagencies out there - NAVFAC, NAVSEA, etc.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

What's the point; management doesn't care.

I have been working at CNIC

    Pros

The pay is great for a Daycare Provider. Time off is almost always approved if you give a 2 weeks notice.

    Cons

Leads do not communicate with each other. The Director is not a people person, and micro manages everything you do. There is no room for growth.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Raise the pay, and give more praise and recognition for all the work we do. They also need to communicate better with the staff.
