I have been working at COGECO full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Decent pay and benefits to start with teeny tiny raises. Discounted cable, internet and phone are a plus. Good co-workers make it bearable.

    Cons

A few years ago was a decent place to work. Good management, clear policies. Last couple of years, management has been overcome by a desire to change for the sake of change, the good has been thrown out with the bad, and chaos rules. Those in charge have no idea what their departments do or how to achieve their goals. Bean counting, tracking and reports are more important than customer service. Ridiculous KPIs are in conflict with ability to help customers both in the call centre and in the field. Work/Home balance is awful due to poor scheduling. Cutbacks, frequent layoffs/terminations, good people quitting. Employee engagement survey results abysmal. Expressed values have no relationship to practice. Even the building is filthy now.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If upper managements goals are to throw away thousands of dollars every day, make their employees miserable and ultimately, their customers, they are going about things the right way. Better idea would be to realize mistakes have been made, put qualified people in charge, and try to fix the damage.

I have been working at COGECO

    Pros

Upper management seem very interested in helping and working with their employees as well as being very fair. It is a very stable environment and their are lots of opportunities to explore area's of creative interest and the company is willing to pay for further training in your area of interest.

    Cons

Middle management is very different from senior management. They seem to be more interested in protecting their spot as opposed to helping their employees develop. Unfortunately because it is a good place to work there is very little opportunity to move up because nobody leaves.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Senior management should continue with what they are doing, continue to supply employees with the best equipment possible to do their jobs and support them with the proper training. Regular meetings with the local systems in appreciated and does not go unnoticed.
There is a need to push middle management to be as progressive and as supportive as senior management.
