Staff augmentation company, NOT a consulting firm.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsThe management team that came with the purchase of Praeos was a very good group of people. These folks knew very much how to run a consulting firm.

ConsThey are a pure 'body shop'. The sales people (account managers) don't have a clue as to how to sell true consulting services. The experts that they had hired ended up all leaving, so no one was left that actually knew what a real consulting services company was, or knew what to do with those of us that were consultants and not 'contractors'.

Advice to Senior ManagementNothing really. They are what they are.

Typical technical staffing agency with many challenges

Account Executive (Current Employee) Campbell, CA

    ProsGood training tools and support

ConsCompany was going through a re-org then was acquired by Manpower in 2010. The goal was to be more of an IT consulting firm and less individual staffing. Manpower wanted to strengthen their US presence as they are considered one of the top IT staffing firms in overseas. The change caused a lot of people to leave the company.

Advice to Senior ManagementAt the time, I was transferred to a new managing director who had been out of the business for a few years. He tried to make some major changes which 65% of the sales team resigned including myself. Strategize and analyze before you make any decision.

    Ok Opportunity

Senior Consultant (Former Employee) Jacksonville, FL

    ProsNone that I can remember

ConsCompany was good, but the Account Manager with the client was a real tool. The client cut rates and the consultants took the entire hit to their pay. Rather than splitting the difference.

Advice to Senior ManagementIf the client forces a reduction in bill rate, eat the reduction. Don't force it on the employee to eat the entire bill rate reduction. This will cause contractors to leave the company.

They lied to me about the project length

Business Analyst (Former Employee) Saint Louis, MO

ProsI was able to negotiate a higher rate for another brief project. I dealt with a different account manager/recruiter and she was very good.

ConsThe whole time I had been discussing opportunities with the original recruiter, I said I would take nothing less than a 12 month contract. He insisted the contract I eventually got was 18 months. When I arrived on the job, I found out that it was 6 month...actually, slightly less. The account manager tried to cover up by saying that I could transition to another role at the same client, but there was no guarantee. Lesson learned...verify contract length with hiring manager and don't trust the recruiter!

Advice to Senior ManagementDo NOT let your recruiters lie, or even stretch to truth to this degree, to potential employees. In the job market today, there are too many other options.

Great on a job by job basis

    Consultant (Former Employee) Houston, TX

ProsPay is good if you got a good assignment. You have to find a way to get into a good paying assignment.

ConsCollaboration is pretty much non-existent. You don't have the backing of an entire service line. It is understood however that as a contractor, you would not get the same benefits.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet your employees, whether contract or permanent into a culture of collaboration and support. Let them feel like they are a part of a bigger company and not just an individual who's dropped into an assignment.
