    I worked at CONMED Corporation

    Pros

Unbelievable 401K - 100% match on first 7%, 8 Paid holidays with 3 additional Floaters, Good Medical options. Good Family / work schedule. Most pears are knowledgeable band willing to help in a mentoring style.

    Cons

Daily commute and traffic. Quick to shoot the messenger of perceived accountability of outside unassigned roles and responsibilities positions. Favoritism and nepotism of management titles with no direct report and share in upper level management bonus plan with no apparent contribution basis. Losing US market share of stagnate sales growth.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you can not share the wealth down to the lowest levels then do not share with exception of building shareholder wealth.

I have been working at CONMED Corporation full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Good exposure for what not to do. It's a job when there are not many jobs in Utica.

    Cons

Nepotism and sexism are rampant. It is like going back to the 1950's...it's like the land where time stood still. Pay as an engineer is less than HR. No new thinking, the only way the company grows is by buying new companies. No ingenuity and dated devices. Work is slow and boring, yet people find nonsense to look busy or act busy. No opportunity for career growth.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop hiring your friends. Develop your talent. Provide a mentor program for new employees and create an actual training program. Provide incentives. Also, importantly, create outlines for career growth so employees want to stay.

I have been working at CONMED Corporation full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Good commute time from where I live

    Cons

This company makes you sign a health waiver in order to be hired. Essentially saying you will not sue the company if you end up having a brain tumor, or something similar. Scary. There is very little support from the top (Utica), and most of the VPs and Directors seem to be power hungry and therefore work within a hierarchal framework. If you're low-man on the totem poll, forget it. If you have complaints, forget about it. HR department is inept. This used to be a great company- over the past 5 years things have really changed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Forget your title, and roll up your sleeves. Also, focus on Linvatec instead of Utica.

I worked at CONMED Corporation full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

The best reasons to work here are the health benefits and in this economy the pay.

    Cons

The biggest challenge is everyone wants to be the boss. Their training methods need a bit of improving.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Ask the employee for their ideas and opinions about changes that will effect them.

    I worked at CONMED Corporation

    Pros

My territory counterpart, the surgeons I worked with in the field, the marketing team, and the corporate office in Denver.

    Cons

    - Management
    - The interview process is not a reflection of the work environment
    - The upper management does not support the sales representatives. They support the managers that direct the sales force, and have no clue what is taking place in the market.
    - The communication that takes place between management and the territory managers is negative and condescending.
    - Good luck deciding what's important enough to bring to your director. If you're correct in approaching them it is too late, if it is not important to them you are wasting their time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire people who want to positively impact and drive the sales force. Some people are meant to be in an office.... With little human interaction.... Not out in the field compromising relationships.

Former Employee - Sales in North Amityville, NY

I worked at CONMED Corporation full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Only for building resume. Get the contacts you need at hospitals then get the heck out.

    Cons

Terrible management team: bullying, micromanagement, controlling. It's like a little boy's club with gossip and bashing behind your back when you don't kiss their butts or bend over and take it up the tailpipe. To anyone considering working here - think again. The only division I'd consider is the Endo division. Don't say you weren't warned!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Resign. Or if you're too stubborn, take some management courses for a change. Stop controlling and manipulating your hard-working employees. And to the new CEO? Try digging in to the real reasons for such terribly high turnover. Hint - Area Sales Directors but it doesn't stop there.

I have been working at CONMED Corporation

    Pros

Lots of variety in the work for engineers.
My boss is very supportive of my work.
Pay is fair for the job description.

    Cons

Senior Management is more worried about who to blame than solving problems.
    Zero cross functional team work.
Management treats employees with distain and distrust. No interest in employee input.
Management is very focused on how many hours are spent in the building, not on work results.
Very little consideration of customer satisfaction or patient safety.
No comprehension of regulatory expectations for a medical device manufacturer.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Time to get rid of all the VP level managers in Colorado. They serve no purpose and manage poorly.
