I have been working at CONSOL Energy full-time for more than a year

    Pros

nice building, enjoyed working with some of my coworkers

    Cons

nepotism and favoritism thrive, management was extremely disorganized and afraid to fire people who deserve it (instead they fire people who make "too much" money but have no power), no consequences for unprofessional behavior even when it negatively impacts work, empty promise of growth within the company

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

get organized, fire people who are unprofessional and don't perform the job well

I worked at CONSOL Energy full-time

    Pros

Good benefits and competitive salary. Human resources department is one of the best assets.

    Cons

There are a lot of men with power complexes running departments--in particular, the public relations department. They tout that they're moving in a new strategic direction, but have no idea what direction that is. There is no leadership or mentoring offered to new employees--if it weren't for the HR department, I wouldn't have known where the coffee or the restrooms were located. For a large energy producer, their PR department is being run very poorly. They don't seem up to speed on PR industry best practices, and the managers seem to have a very blatant disregard for rules, processes and ethical standards. I was very disappointed with my experience and expected better from a household name like CONSOL.

I worked at CONSOL Energy full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Consol is willing to give major decisions to young people which gives them a unique opportunity to learn from their mistakes.

    Cons

Due to their coal pay scale they will not pay industry standard rates on their gas side. This lead to the hiring of under qualified individuals into specialized fields such as; employees with a bachelor’s degree in business to supervise a drilling rig instead of the petroleum engineer they should have hired. Major safety issues are overlooked on a regular by middle management and onsite employees half because they don’t know better and the other half because if they don’t their next promotion will not come. If you value your health and the health of those around you please avoid working at Consol.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make every employee re apply for their own job using the criteria of other companies in the industry. Get rid of those that do not meet standards and fill the gaps that are left with consultants. Please implement these changes before it is too late.

I have been working at CONSOL Energy full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

A few years ago, benefits and salary were above average. Currently, benefits have been reduced, and salaries frozen, however, they are still not too bad compared to similar positions in the southwestern PA area.

    Cons

As far as employee work satisfaction, performance, and personal well-being, management does not take into account any employee feedback whatsoever. There are no incentives to do a better job at one's position, other than a mandatory faux employee performance appraisal once a year, which is only reflected on a few bucks more or less from the STIC. In reality, there is no short term (monthly / weekly) follow up on improvement, nor there is voice for employee's concerns, opinions, ideas, or needs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to the ones who do the actual work. Maybe things could be done a lot more efficiently, if they knew what happens at the core of every task, and what pitfalls could be avoided.

I have been working at CONSOL Energy

    Pros

Decent pay and benifit package. Again, maybe the safest company to work for. Large volume of coal produced insures continued employment. Fellow workers are experienced and well trained.

    Cons

Very poor communications and coordination between upper management personel and section foremen. To many young foremen lacking experience are not held accountable for making mistakes. Lack of teamwork between different shifts.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Come into the work areas and see what is going on!! Stop trying to run the mine from behind a desk in an office outside.

    I worked at CONSOL Energy

    Pros

Great physical work environment and willing to spend capital to get the job done. Exciting industry to be involved with and good technical challenges. Very competitive compensation - above average for the geographic region.

    Cons

Outdated management styles and reluctant to embrace change and innovation. Very little team work among groups. Senior management does not often exhibit the leadership and technical abilities to move initiative forward. Many competing interests with little resolution from executive managment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to embrace technology and the people who can help you implement it.

I have been working at CONSOL Energy full-time

    Pros

Good benefits and office. Promotes Safety.

    Cons

Old school with man oriented environment. Future of company uncertain-layoffs, selling off mines and closing branch offices. Shrinking-not growing.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more flexible and alert employees of company changes prior to having to read about it on the internet.
