    Pros

Overall, the comp and benefits at CPA Global were fairly good, though have deteriorated in recent years. Travel opportunities are fantastic and you can see the world on a very comfortable expense policy, especially for management.

    Cons

The biggest trend is the complete disregard for employees at all levels. A constant revolving door for senior management, each worst than the last. The problem with so many rounds of employee restructurings is how the employees are treated upon being dismissed. Politics and drama require a thick skin at this firm. The forward looking guidance is terrible with so many lawsuits being announced in the news such as that by Cardiovax LLC. This trend is growing and might suggest pricing and ethics problems, not to mention tax implications. Customer dissatisfaction will continue to harm margins and lead to worse conditions for employees in an already bad cultural environment. Changes in patent law around the world have a possibility of hurting future business prospects and this is a growing challenge. Everything is going to offshore locations so be careful. Be careful in general unless you have no concern for job security and fair treatment.

    Advice to Management

People should be viewed as an asset.

    Pros

Initially, there was significant opportunity to grow and expand without significant interference by management. However within the past year things have changed and operations are becoming more restrictive and micromanaged

    Cons

There is a tendency for this company to squeeze every ounce of life, energy and creativity that they can out of their employees while making minimal investments.

    Advice to Management

There needs to be greater support for employees, training and development of role related knowledge should be encouraged more than it is.

    Pros

I have met some very intelligent, creative people.

    Cons

Finger pointing, too much politics, and very poor leadership within the Patent & Trademark team. Multiple conflicts taken to HR have been ignored or met with threats of termination from upper management. The company has been performing very poorly over the past several years - the benefits have gradually decreased or gotten more expensive and morale across the company is very low. Long-time employees get fired or quit with increasing frequency.

    Advice to Management

    Find and train better leadership.

    Pros

Global Company, best benefits available. Top of the line services for the IP industry. Level of offerings within IP is unmatched and lots of travel.

    Cons

Lack of Transparency from executive leadership lead to feelings of anxiety and uncertainty within ranks. Private equity ownership has limited the amount of money that can be made.

    Advice to Management

Training and investment in employees felt like it was lacking at some times. Ownership by private equity firm has really clamped down on opportunities that were there before.

    Pros

Good benefits; retirement plan, vacation/holiday schedule are noteworthy Competitive salary

    Cons

Self-centered, myopic leaders at the top with little vision or ability to communicate where the company is going. Company is owned by an outside investment firm and feels like it is being set up for a fire sale. Company is being aggressively attacked by competitors, fast losing market share. The culture is full of back-biting, gossip with little to no feedback from management on performance.

    Advice to Management

Do the opposite of the Cons listed above.

    Pros

There are great people that work at Computer Patent Annuity. The have a great benefit package. The salaries are above par for the industry.

    Cons

This company seems as though they lacked direction in management located in Europe. The systems are outdated for a company as profitable as CPA GLOBAL.

    Advice to Management

Please upgrade and condense your computer systems.

    Pros

Exceptional benefits - likely a product of being a European based company in terms of health insurance, 401K match etc.

    Cons

Highly siloed between different divisions of company to an absurd point. Executive structure spread worldwide sometime without any local control. My supervisor was half a world away - spoke to him on a monthly basis - would seem awesome but resulted in being paralyzed by inaction and delays in decision making. Revenue targets are completely delusional and are likely based on promises made to investment groups that have purchased the company (sold 2x in past 5 years) - looking for double digit growth in top and bottom line regardless of state of economy during that time. CPA facing increased competition where once it was an unchallenged monopoly, but has sought to maintain same margins on the backs of the employees rather than conceding lower margins due to competition - likely because of promises made to private equity investors. As a result, 4 of 5 years I was there bonuses were cancelled or reduced due to not meeting targets - despite year over year improvements in revenue, profits.

    Advice to Management

Have the tough conversations with your investment group about potentially not delivering on promised returns instead of trying to make up for missing unrealistic targets through slashing employee bonuses & layoffs.
