    Great Future Ahead

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsGrowing platform that can only go up from where it is right now. Reputation is strong and steadily growing

ConsCompany is expanding quite a bit which may result in an increase in bureaucracy and a lack of organisation and structure.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Good company to be in long relationship with

    QA Analyst (Former Employee)
    Toronto, ON (Canada)

ProsNice people, good environment, free coffee and tea, generous pay, no outsourcing (very important especially for IT personnel), excellent location right in the middle of downtown Toronto

ConsSDLC needs a lot of improvement, managers try hard but seems do not what to do. They need to outgrow the one-person shop mentality. I am talking about IT department. I hope the business knows how to work and the growth in capitalizations over 200 billion proves that.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet experienced IT managers who know how the SDLC should be organized and do not use agile approach as an excuse for the lack of process and methodology. Create key roles such as Platform owners and Architects who will have a high level view of the whole system and leave the silos-based approach run by developers who do not have a view at the required level.

If you're into finance, this is a great company!

    Administrative Assistant (Current Employee)
    Toronto, ON (Canada)

    ProsFriendly work environment
    Young and energetic staff
Approachable employees (for the most part)
    Competitive compensation
If you have a financial background, lots of room to move
    Downtown office
A reputable, international and noble company to work for

ConsAs I don't have a financial background and worked in administration, not too much room to move up
Working with demanding and high profile investors can be stressful

Overly bureaucratic and silo structure restricts creative thinking and causes 'turf' mentality

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsDecent comp for Toronto and size of the fund allows access to great resources. Deal flow can be good if you're in the right group and they have been able to recruit some top talent given the lack of opportunities elsewhere.

ConsFace-time work culture is pervasive. People hoard information in order to 'one-up' others in meetings, etc. Lots of back-chatter and 'ratting out' used to bring others down, particularly for groups that lack real deal flow and no way to really differentiate. Messaging to employees regarding promotions and ability to move around is frequently not followed through on.

Advice to Senior ManagementLess talk about building a high performance culture - look at how little teams share information and how much the organization increasingly mirrors an investment bank in terms of internal behaviours and culture.

Great job if you want to be in finance

    Senior Analyst (Former Employee)
    Toronto, ON (Canada)

ProsGet to work with the smartest people, highest profile deals, friendly culture. Great brand name. Fund will only grow so great place to build a career if you can stand the other issues.

ConsExtremely bureaucratic. Quite disorganized. Tons of moving parts. People who get deals done (even really bad deals) have been promoted. No accountability for bad investments.

Advice to Senior ManagementDon't be so budget focused. Invest in people and see your dividends grow. Disclose what is going on in the organization. Be less secretive. Practice what you preach. Fire people who have shown poor results.

ConsVery rapid growth, lots of new employees weekly which means a lot of ambiguity.
