    Positive Outlook

I worked at CSA Group as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

-Small company environment -Most people knew my name as an intern. The managers were great. Even though, I didn't fall into their purview, we often talked. They gave me advice about career development and life in general. Again, there's a chance you'll fall in love with the atmosphere. -They're across the street from Battery Park. (Take lunch outside, you'd be surprised how great the view is in the summer)

    Cons

-Small company (it can go both ways if you're into a bigger companies with bigger projects) environment

    Advice to Management

Great job with the atmosphere. Everyone was super-kind and was enthusiastic about their job.

    Pros

This once was a great organization to work for but all that has changed over time. The original management team was individuals, with an engineering/technical background who had worked their way up through the ranks and they knew their stuff. Safety was "job1" Some of the best and brightest minds in the gas industry once worked here.

    Cons

The bottom line is all this organization is concerned about, safety be damned. The company is now run by folks who really have no business what so ever managing a testing laboratory. You have engineering judgements and decisions being made by people who do not have the appropriate background and experience to do so. Many long term employees who were the knowledge pool have been replaced by junior cadets who know nothing and have no one to learn from. Oh, but they work cheaper. You can get three of them for the cost of one experienced individual.

    Advice to Management

Fire yourselves, you're incompetent at managing period.....people, technology, finances, workflow, customer base, you name it. You took a once thriving business and ran it into the ground. The old timers who built what you have destroyed are rolling over in their graves.

I worked at CSA Group as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

The office environment was very enjoyable, every single person was always in a great mood and willing to help each other. I enjoyed the fact that there were more than ten nationalities represented in the small New York office.

    Cons

Lunch time can get loud because the employees gather in the kitchen area to talk and make jokes.

    Advice to Management

Leadership is great, they would always say Good Morning and be around.

    Pros

Very good place to work. Nice manager to work with.

    Cons

Not much chance of change or promotion as this is a small facility.

    Pros

It's a great place for Hispanic professionals without much experience. Opportunity to become a Project Manager with little experience.

    Cons

Project Managers have the responsibility for projects success. However, they do not have any authority to obtain the needed resources. They get a pocket knife to do brain surgery. To alleviate their own responsibilities, the partners would make people Project Managers without their consent or compensating them properly. Tends to favor minorities. Their mantra was to be the best Hispanic company in the world.

    Advice to Management

Abandon the philosophy that places all of the responsibility on the Project Managers. It creates a lot of game playing and finger pointing. The managers get no support from the top and those below have no stake. Responsibilities should be distributed from top to bottom. Be honest with yourselves.

I worked at CSA Group full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Personal and professional growth, excellent opportunities to build relationships both internally and externally. Allows for a good work-life balance, and benefits are great. The work environment is, overall, outstanding.

    Cons

Promotions are poitical; need a godfather to advance. Part of the organization is unionized, which leads to poor customer service and significant red tape and bureaucracy, which creates a bad reputation and affects the entire organization, including those that are not unionized.

    Advice to Management

Reduce bureaucracy and meetings, allowing people more time to do their work instead of having excessive meetings that reduce productivitysignificantly

    Pros

    Flex hours in SOME locations

    Cons

Work you hard, ask for more, very little gratitude. Not a Canadian company anymore. China is the bright star in this organization.

    Advice to Management

Train your managers. They have no managerial skills.

I worked at CSA Group full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Exposure to a vast variety of new technologies Hands-on Work Get Paid to blow things up :) Stable, longterm job.

    Cons

Disorganization of Management Passive Aggressive Staff who don't want to share their expertise. A leadership team that would rather die a slow painful death than change. Disgruntled staff, lazy staff.

    Advice to Management

If you want to be able to compete in this world, listen to your employees, especially your talented ones.
