I have been working at CSAA Insurance Group full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Having just celebrated its 100th anniversary, CSAA Insurance Group is growing and is a vibrant place to work. It's nice to see the company invest significantly in technology upgrades. The company also has an active volunteerism program, robust wellness initiatives, excellent professional development programs/classes and a strong focus on diversity and inclusion.

    Cons

Although it's an exciting time, workload can be challenging given all the transformational programs and projects in flight right now.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to be focused on the company's culture; it's a great asset!

I have been working at CSAA Insurance Group full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Very laid back environment, this can be both a pro and a con, depending on your perspective. There are times it makes it nice to work here, but be prepared to have every project you work on fail, and be prepared to work with grossly incompetent people who will never get reprimanded or fired. In fact they will get raises and promotions at the same rate as everyone else based solely on tenure.

    Cons

Company is slowly going under. Large companies don't go bankrupt overnight, it is a long, slow, painful process. The company has not kept up with the times. No internet capabilities, no mobile capabilities, no new strategies, no national ad campaign, billing an payments is a mess, telephony is a mess, product management has no vision, no use of algorithms or analytics, basic reporting and metric tracking is a huge mess. This company is being run like a regional insurance company from the 90's.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The C suit and the board are primarily focused on syphoning money out of the company while it is going under. They force large contracts with vendors who they have an interest in, and stand to gain from the transactions. If they wanted to make a difference, I would suggest modernizing the company on all fronts. They claim this is a priority, but these projects move so slowly that we actually fall further behind in the process. The members of the BOD who actually care about the company should fire the CEO & CIO, and force out the other board members who are syphoning money from the company.

    Pros

The office culture is nice. It is very hard to get fired since they are focused on keeping people for the long run.

    Cons

It is very hard to get fired since they are focused on keeping people for the long run. Therefore, accountability is not stressed and metiocrity, even total failure, is tolerated. It cascades into all aspects of the business and the data situation is horrendous. They are trying to adapt to a 5 year old technology, which tells you where they are now today.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get some better data governance and management. It means that the workers cannot achieve their best because they have to stoop low to the company's level and base capabilities. It is kind of sad that they cant even get their numbers to add and subtract correctly...

I worked at CSAA Insurance Group as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

Newer technology being adopted and a few great managers (most under 2 years at this organization)

    Cons

Incompetent managers not being terminated for nepotism or politics.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Include outside consultants in performance reviews of managers regarding hard and soft skills. Unqualified Managers lack both leadership and technical skillets to accomplish C level strategies. Severe lack of insight due to minimal reporting from old manual methods.

    Pros

Life work balance, great career development programs

    Cons

Slow pace for changes, people are not always being held accountable for their actions, poor change management and project management

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It will be helpful to bring the right people in the right place. Sometimes incompetency creates frustration, lowers standards and employee morale.

I have been working at CSAA Insurance Group full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

I am really surprised by the disguntled reviews. This is an organization that cares greatly about its members/insureds and its employees in a way that is manifest over and over again. I do not observe office political and, to the contrary, admire the company for encouraging fierce discussions and creativity. The company has a clear strategy for success and has made great strides in furtherance of that strategy, particularly in building its IT infrastructure, over the past several years. I have worked at several companies and none have held a candle to CSAA IG in terms of having a quality moral compass, aiming to do right by their customers and displaying appropriate business savvy.

    Cons

We excitedly await final delivery of transformational tools, which we'd have loved to have yesterday. Sometimes I wonder if too much time and energy is devoted toward being a good civic citizen and quality employer.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep up the good work and favorable trajectory.

I have been working at CSAA Insurance Group full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Most of the people in the company really want the company to continue with its successes. In the IT area, people (in general) have high praises for the CIO, whom is open and down to earth. His Direct Reports all seem to share the CIO's views on being transparent. All are competent.

    Cons

Like many long-established companies, CSAA is slow to make necessary changes to make room for efficiencies. In one non-IT area, it has taken over a year of reform promises and yet, that has not yet happen.

    Pros

This place does not have any pros!

    Cons

Intense politics and lack of accountability across the entire company. Leadership picks and chooses their pets as if this were a junior high school campus. Passive aggressive behavior that is maddening. Don't even think about challenging status quo or you will find yourself ostracized. Oh and if you are not Asian you can really forget about any kind of future here.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Fire the senior leadership team including the CEO. Start anew before it's too late. Your brand won't survive much longer if you don't.

    Pros

Good benefits and pay, with pension plan, and great 401k matching. Good work/life balance. 24 hours per year paid for volunteering.

    Cons

Lots of embedded vendor technology, and technology contractors make it difficult to implement a change. Complex relationships with AAA clubs and AAA National make it even more difficult.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Instead of using so many technology contractors and vendors, try hiring more full time employees.
