Pros
Salary is good.
Location was convenient.
Benefits ok.
Work hours ok.
Fellow employees always helpful.
Project was interesting.
Some of management were helpful.
Cons
Expected to go into the field on a rush 2 week boot camp and perform at high level. Not enough training/exposure on new area to be an SME. Was hired for Deployment 3 and told there were several places to be staffed after deployment was completed. All hired in for Deployment were laid off as no positions were available.
Advice to Senior Management
Be truthful on staffing for potential employees. If position is only for 3 months then it should be stated as such. Do not be deceitful.
Pros
Close to home for commuting both ways
Cons
long hours spent for nothing
Advice to Senior Management
wake up and smell the coffee
Pros
Unlimited learning. There are hundreds of classes you can complete on your own time, and it's free. Most employees are dedicated and willing to share knowledge.
Cons
CSC always has layoffs. They downsize to the point that there are not enough people to work accounts. This causes the people left behind, to pick up more work then they can handle.
Advice to Senior Management
Start cutting executives and their salaries. Everytime a layoff occurs, key people are let go. Stop all bonus options. If the employees are told there will be no pay raises, then it should start at the top.
Pros
Quite a laid back company and an average level of expertise is adequate to keep any individual going by without any issues.
Cons
Not a place for folks who are interested in progressing in their career or are looking to learn. It is a very flat organization wherein opportunities to move up the ladder are practically non existent. No recognition for a job well done and do not expect anything by way of yearly raises or bonuses.
Advice to Senior Management
If you are expecting model employees, how about being a model employer? Management is very, very conservative and are in need of a serious business strategy review.
Pros
Good project = good experience
Complete travel reimbursement
Meet new people
Always improving yourself
Good bench system when not on a project
Cons
If you dont have a project, a lot of pressure is put on you to find a project with little help
Really boring orientation
May end up with a terrible project for an extended time
Advice to Senior Management
Judge your talent carefully and assign them accordingly
If a consultant wants to change projects, make it easy for them to do so
Re-evaluate bonus system
Pros
CSC-Consulting gives new employees a solid foundation in consulting, business, technical, and project management skills. There are many opportunities for the employees to learn from more senior employees; and the company is widely respected within the life sciences industry. There are many internal training opportunities.
Cons
The atmosphere is very "me-oriented", and salary adjustments decreased every year that I was employed.
Advice to Senior Management
Focus on the career development of the employees and team-building.
Pros
Challenging Environment & Supports Professional & Career Development
Cons
Very Low Compensations with high work pressure
Advice to Senior Management
Fair compensation based on performance. The current performance review system is highly bueracratic and doesn't support fair compensations
Pros
Promotions are very political instead of based on work done. There are too many layers of management. You have project managers on your local job then you have communities that have staff manager, sub leads and community leads. At any time you don’t know who to talk to for anything because you’re not sure who controls what.
Cons
Promotions are very political instead of based on work done.
Advice to Senior Management
Management of your employees should be done by someone that has actually worked with the person not through five levels of managers.
Pros
- Tremendous, worldwide resources in terms of technology
- A lot of good people to work with
- Stable, large public corporation
- Learning opportunities are available
Cons
- The current economic environment has caused the following cons :
- No pay raises and little or no bonus
- Some layoffs happened
- Vacation accruals were stopped for a period of time
- At the corporate level, some expansion related, travel related, etc... expenses have been frozen this year which caused difficulties in going up against competitors for work when they did not have the same restrictions.
Advice to Senior Management
Significantly increase outward bound marketing activities to advance the mind share of the company in the market place.
Streamline certain processes to avoid "giant corporate" issues.
Pros
They work with some of the best companies in the industry. Company employees over 80000 people in several different countries on several different continents. Company does well with diversity in the workplace. Company is competitive with salary and tends to give fair merit increases. They need to do a better job at integrating when doing mergers, specifically with the Covansys merger. Many folks from the Covansys side still feel disassociated and do not necessarily feel part of the CSC team. Also, CSC Resource Managers, specifically those from the Covansys side need to become more agressive in ensuring existing employees are kept on, and put on projects in a timely fashion
Cons
Merger with Covansys with caused some disconnects with the Covansys folks getting the short end of the stick.
Advice to Senior Management
Better integrate Covansys resources to give the 1 company feel.
