CSC

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at CSC full-time

ProsLarge company with many different divisions to work in. Care about their employees.

ConsLots of change going on. Lots of activity but there appears to not be enough planning. You have to nominate yourself for promotion and then go through a presentation as to why you should be promoted.

Transformation is poorly planned and executed

Senior Information Security Specialist (Current Employee)

I have been working at CSC full-time for more than 3 years

ProsSome really bright people work here. If the site director supports you, additional training for certifications and special skills are approved.

ConsContract resources that provide revenue are not acknowledged. Can't get any response for job applications that my qualifications more than meet the position description.

Advice to Senior ManagementReach out to highly skilled employees not located within the beltway. These valuable resources can easily move to competitors.

So Far So Good

Electronics Technician I (Current Employee)
Fort Knox, KY

I have been working at CSC as a contractor for more than 7 years

ProsLarge Company that provides well rounded benefits package and Pay. If you are flexiable with your career, there are opportunities for advancement and growth.

ConsGovernment Contracting side of the house. No longevity with the positions.
Company is so large there is no oversight at my workplace. I work for my local management team and not for the Company. Vision is a little Blurry!

Advice to Senior ManagementTake pride in your job and you position. Promote development within the workforce and yes that includes raises and possibly and bonus every once in a while.

OK Place to Work

Senior Consultant/ERP Product Specialist (Former Employee)
Marlton, NJ

I worked at CSC full-time for less than a year

ProsClient was nice/professional, co-workers helpful for new hires. Lots of documentation for reference. Pay was very good, benefits as well. Deployment locations matched with home location as much as possible.

ConsManager was unprofessional during meetings, hard to get one on one meetings. New hires brought in to handle deployment with only 2 weeks of training. No help with timeline issues.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe more open to employees. Help with issues at a higher level and receive additional hours/help.

Government contracting 101

Systems Engineer (Former Employee)
Dahlgren, VA

I worked at CSC full-time for more than a year

ProsIts a large company with a large support base. That has its own benefits--its easy to get help when you need it (IT, HR, finance, etc), as its outsourced from your home office.

The downside is that when you work at a company that was originally acquired--I worked at a facility post-acquisition--you are kind of isolated. The group I worked with was in a box. They existed to serve a predetermined set of programs for a predetermined set of customers.

ConsJust as it is a pro, working for a large company is a con. You're a cog, and that's easy to see. The group I also worked in was narrowly focused, which limited opportunity. Lastly, the supervisor was a bit of a micromanager. They were great for the most part, as I was younger and perhaps in need of guidance, but the constant over-the-shoulder supervision was frustrating to say the least

Growing up in CSC Security

Manager (Current Employee)
Newark, DE

I have been working at CSC full-time for more than 8 years

ProsThe staff of the Security Operations Centers are passionate and work to make their services and their responses better.
There is a family aspect to the security team.

ConsThere are decisions made about services with little to no operations input. These decisions impact the processes and personnel, usual to the negative, making the environment feel more chaotic then it should.

Advice to Senior ManagementListen to your senior managers and your SOC managers, and standardize how account team interaction is done.

Excellent experience until the contract ended.

Information Specialist (Current Employee)
Washington, DC

I have been working at CSC full-time for more than 7 years

ProsThe staff was treated respectfully by project management and it was wonderful to have the option of teleworking from home and attending monthly meetings via WebEx teleconferencing and phone.

ConsThe contract was ended way too abruptly for many as staff was downsized due to budget constraints in a very difficult austere economy. Only two weeks' notice with no severance pay given for a job well done.

Advice to Senior ManagementExtend severance pay to discharged employees and subcontractors and offer to assist in their reemployment and retraining inside and outside the company.

No solid footing

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at CSC full-time for more than 7 years

ProsDepends on who you have for a manager, you can get some support. You do get 9 holidays off a year and they have a decent 401K plan

ConsThe higher-ups get higher and you remain the same. Your hard work will be celebrated with the leadership getting higher positions, bonuses and better pay while you receive nothing (no praise, no monetary bonus, no raises). Depending on where you work within CSC, you may be at the whim of the DOL listing for your pay. HR is pro-management/con employee in a lot of the cases (no replies, no email returns, etc.)

Advice to Senior ManagementRecognize those that make you look good with an "atta-boy" instead of trying to convince employees that "you cant do anything about funds or raises and even you are at the whim of the government" because employees want to know that they are going to be part of the company and that it was a good career choice to join the company. We dont want to hear all of the "gushing" on email from HR about how we should all pat management on the back because they got a greater position.
