    Pros

Like the campus atmosphere. Lots of good coworkers.

    Cons

Terrible managers that do not know how to treat people right. Rampant cronyism and a "good old boys" culture that excludes those that are not connected.

    Advice to Management

Treat us with some respect. There is no opportunity for advancement or promotion. Stagnant wages are depressing morale.

    Pros

I love the population that we worked with - lots of low-income, first generation students of color that have overcome a lot of barriers. There are some people that are very hardworking, passionate individuals.

    Cons

Almost no accountability, a ton of people do not do their jobs, yet do not get fired (and a lot of them are in the union). Many people want you to either "manage up" or they micromanage, rather than providing adequate support and supervision, but also ownership. Terrible management structure with people that are stretched too thin.

    Advice to Management

Keep your managers accountable and emphasize the IMPORTANCE of regular supervision and adequate support.

    Pros

interesting diverse students, and invested faculty.

    Cons

Not good pay, huge classes and lots of grading (and many students who need the extra help with essay construction, etc.)

    Pros

good staff (every department I have dealt with), management is very approachable and down to earth, very nimble and apt to adjust to current needs (although a state school). Benefits are good. Staff and students get free or discounted tickets to several Galaxy games per year.

    Cons

Nothing significant. DH sports restaurant is really over priced and the food is not very good. The food court does not cater to the demographics represented.

    Advice to Management

Please stay at DH as long as possible. Lots of turnover at the top stagnates our progress.

    Pros

Small departments mean there is a lot of team building and one on one time with supervisors. Free food during events, exciting and engaging work and wonderful, well rounded people make the work that much more fun.

    Cons

The pay could be better and some of the processes implemented by the high admin could use some tweaking.

    Advice to Management

Continue discussing growth within the unit!

    Pros

Good cooperation Capable senior management Commitment to customers (students) Willingness to listen to new ideas and ways to accomplish work Flexible work schedules

    Cons

Compensation influenced (determined) by ineffective state legislature Extreme budget crisis in CA is undermining the ability of the state universities to remain competitive in salary and benefit offerings No benefits to contract staff even though they are state employees

    Advice to Management

The president of this university (Dr. Garcia) is exceptionally strong in leadership and commitment to students. The executive team is also remarkable in their skills to offer state-of-the-art instructional resources. Management is doing all they can to provide a high quality education in very difficult economic times for state funded service programs such as the state university system.

    Pros

family oriented, flexible schedule, fee waivers if you want to attend school.

    Cons

You might gain a little weight from all the office parties.... maybe that not such a bad thing.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you've been doing.

    Pros

Great organization to work for a long term growth position. The environment is stable and secure. CSU offers excellent benefits (fully paid medical, dental, vision and fee waiver for courses taken at a CSU campus)

    Cons

Highly political environment. In an effort to successfully complete an IT project, one must be very persistent with follow through. Lack of knowledge transfer between groups within IT. Occasionally, tasks are completed at "state employee" speed.

    Advice to Management

Direct manager is doing an excellent job. I would advise Senior Management to follow through with a long term vision.
