I have been working at CSU Fullerton part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

The faculty is helpful and looks out for the newer teachers. Most of the students are respectful!

    Cons

This is a state school, so some students lack the urgency to learn. This can be a major struggle and it differs from fall and spring semester. Fall, the students are more excited, where in spring they are distracted and less driven.

I worked at CSU Fullerton part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

I worked as an adjunct here for a semester. I had a wonderful time. The campus is nice and cheery, the students seem happy to be there and it was just a great experience. My colleagues were outgoing and helpful. Department chair was helpful, pleasant and the kind of boss you'd want to have.

    Cons

As an adjunct, you're not going to get rich. It's also hard to find a full-time gig or adjunct with security of employment position here. However, that's pretty much the case everywhere.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The training session for new adjuncts was not the greatest. It went through materials at too quick a pace and did not prepare us to use Moodle. Also: we weren't told up front how much we would be paid, so it made for an awkward experience when I had to ask.

I have been working at CSU Fullerton

    Pros

Pension is great - 5 years and you're vested. Benefits are awesome. Union is decent

    Cons

Major politics on campus. No one wants to give raises. Staff is under appreciated and overworked. Little to no flexibility in regards to work hours. There are a lot of micromanagers throughout campus - Beware! Union blocks bad employees from getting fired.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat your employees the way they should and they will give you great results. Disrespect them and act like they aren't people to worry about then you will continue to have a revolving door on campus and won't be able to retain faculty, staff, or students.

I have been working at CSU Fullerton

    Pros

The students work in earnest. And the proximity to Los Angeles and beach cities is nice.

    Cons

The challenges of working here are that if you are an intelligent, informed, and motivated academic you will find yourself wanting to pull out your hair when nothing in the entire system of governance is logical or timely.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop relying on mid-level management for "new ideas."
