I worked at CSU Fullerton (Less than a year)

    Pros

Staffs are friendly and helpful. The position has minimal supervision. I only need to report once or twice per semester to the Department Chair.

    Cons

The building is old and majority of the CSU students are unmotivated. They have really tight budget and as a result, I did not have any assistant on grading class assignments.

    Pros

Flexible schedule, good pay, safe environment, wonderful staff, great students, good work/life balance. Generally a great place to work.

    Cons

A lot of politics within the departments. They care too much about GRE scores when determining who gets TA positions, when that test is not really a true measurement of someone's intelligence.

    Advice to Management

Give everyone a chance to shine. Not everyone looks great on paper (GPA, GRE, etc.), but are wonderful employees (and are still very intelligent). Be more respectful to those that work for you.

    I worked at CSU Fullerton

    Pros

Location, location, location. Orange county is great.

    Cons

Compensation is lower than other public higher education institutions. Freeway traffic if you're a commuter is a nightmare.

    Pros

Excellent opportunity to help others write while enriching your own writing
    Solid training in tutoring class
    Wonderful sense of community
Provides great opportunities to work as ISAs in English classes or as a gateway to becoming a TA in your own English course
    Extremely flexible scheduling

    Cons

Sense of support from department can be lacking
Feels too compartmentalized between Writing Center, department, and administration
Compensation should be more competitive for the work that is done; comparable tutoring jobs pay more elsewhere
CEO and upper admin of university are cutting down on library resources
