    Pros

Focus on work-life balance, interesting and challenging projects.

    Cons

Developers are paid hourly with no overtime allowed, which can make finishing projects in a timely manner difficult.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Put a greater emphasis on doing things right the first time instead of getting releases out the door.

    Pros

CUDL has been around a long time, has many dealer clients and some talent working at the company. They treat you well in general - the pay is pretty good, and there are a lot of perks. You can get promoted, and there are a lot of lifers.

    Cons

There was way too many middle management people and not enough salespeople to take care of our dealers effectively. Territories are huge, so its almost impossible to spend the amount of time necessary to really succeed. Priorities change every quarter and aren't very consistent. And, you have to be a man to get a promotion. There are only a few women managers in the whole company, and only one in sales. Some of the managers they do have dont do very much at all or act really inapropriately, doing things that should get them written up but they never do. Its a good old boy network. Watch out.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Something probably isn't right with the way you evaluate who should get promotions.

    Pros

Good salary and benefits. Good leadership in some areas.

    Cons

Good ole boy mentality in some regions, unprofessional behavior is tolerated and overlooked due to personal relationships.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Seniority does not equal effective, clean house, get rid of the dead-wood.

I worked at CU Direct full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Benefits are great and line staff are great people to work with

    Cons

Leadership team is unpolished and unprofessional. Company secures talent but doesn't do much to develop their employees. This company uses their talent/people for the skills they already have without providing opportunities to grow. If you want to move up, this isn't the company for you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Train management to develop their direct reports to be capable of replacing them or moving within the organization. The organization got used to functioning with skeleton crews in the lean days and seems to have forgotten that it has to be a two way street (promote from within).

    Pros

The people are very easy to talk to and ask probing questions

    Cons

They leave you hanging when it comes to a decision. When asked for follow-up . . . they've changed their mind and gone another direction.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make a decision and follow-up on it.

    Current Employee - Anonymous Employee

I have been working at CU Direct

    Pros

Overall, the people are great and the compensation/benefits are above average (exceptional 401k). Stable throughout recession due to very competent accounting practices. Innovative products and sales strategies.

    Cons

Very poor planning and divisional alignment of priorities. As a result, the company spends more time dealing with crisis and issues caused by poor communication. The impact on staff is high stress and impact on personal life. Constantly shifting priorities before the previous project is complete.
