I have been working at CUNA Mutual full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Benefits are really good and pay is decent. The company is in a profitable market which helps our bonus checks.

    Cons

The IT structure really seems to segregate the collaboration between and across departments. There are a LOT of managers when there needs to be more full time employees. Several areas of IT are short staffed with no look at hiring support for those areas. The union aspect seems to lock down the amount you can make and the only way to get a raise outside of the yearly raise is to get a promotion. In my area, they do not seem to think continuing education is beneficial and do no budget for it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest more money into your employees so that they know more and can be more productive and make less mistakes. Hold people more accountable for their job roles. Reward those who work hard and truly strive to make the company better. To many people do just enough to not get fired.

I worked at CUNA Mutual as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

Onsite cafeteria and gym, great co-workers (for the most part), and very nice facility that is constantly updated.

    Cons

You are essentially tied to your desk, regardless of your department. Calls can be fed to new hires to inflate their statistics leaving more experience agents left hanging on occasion.

I worked at CUNA Mutual full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Pay/benefits were good. On-site cafeteria, coffee shop and under ground parking bonus.

    Cons

Very odd culture. As a new employe you are made to feel very unwelcome and given poor training. Felt at times I was told to do things one way so I could get slapped down by one of the 'lifers'.

    Pros

Flexibility, good co-workers, work from home ability, tuition reimbursement opportunities, benefits, on campus work out facility, cafeteria, underground parking, yearly bonus (potentially)

    Cons

Too much work, too little pay, can get into a position that has little growth opportunities, work/life balance can get out of control quickly with the amount of work you get assigned

I have been working at CUNA Mutual full-time

    Pros

CUNA Mutual offers the challenges of interesting work assignments with benefits of working for a midwestern company. There is a great working environment with the atrium and increasing number of collaborative work spaces. They also invest extensively in talent management.

    Cons

There can be a lot of change/reorganization. Often it is small, just tweaking reporting lines. But, it can add some confusion.
