    One pro from my personal experience are that I have been able to advance to higher level job titles/positions.

    Pros

    The compensation is above average. But the potential to earn the equity and bonus targeted is elusive.

    Cons

    The work life balance is nonexistent. In the past year I worked overnight on projects on two occasions. The atmosphere is retail-oriented. Like Walmart... you work until you drop.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Try to become a real wellness company versus a company that only wants to sell ever increasing volumes of health & beauty items, pharmaceutics and drug plans.

    Pros

    The company seems very stable and you don't need to worry about layoffs. Nice subsidized cafeteria. The technology in IT promotes a great learning ground. If you can survive a year in IT, you can look for another position inside the company and there are always openings.

    Cons

    The pay is lower in Woonsocket/Cumberland, RI, not much negotiating, benefits are expensive. Mytime is not ideal, tip - negotiate for as much vacation as you can. Getting into IT Management seems much easier than at other companies and therefore, managers are less experienced. (May just be my observation from a more myopic viewpoint of my own larger team.) The commute can be very much more trafficky than you may expect as there is really one way in and one way out of the industrial park near One CVS Drive. Many of the people who work in IT are obligated to the company; due to this, others take advantage. They squeeze as much of your time as they can get and there's no way to say no, Application Managers in IT are constantly pushing for more. Work life balance is not a balance at all...

    Think about Market Basket, treat your employees better... Seriously, there needs to be a huge shift in how employees in IT are treated.

    Bureaucratic, slow decision-making, culture mired in old ways despite advertising to the contrary. front-line workers and managers have dwindling resources

    Invest back into the frontline, customer-facing folks. Evaluate long-time executives, directors and managers who don't walk the talk. Prioritize the customer first, employee second and Wall Street last - you've got it backwards today.

    Pros

    My coworkers were one of the only pros at this job. The health benefits are also top notch. The new plans are high deductible, but that's not their fault.

    Cons

    Management is always changing. Management is controlling and will backdoor you to make themselves look better. CVS management in this department does not care about employees, only money. You get a raise every April. You're lucky if you get a 2% raise. Work/life balance is unmanageable because all you want to do when you get out of work is sleep or drink. This is a high stress job with NO room for advancement. They would rather hire people outside of the company for supervisor and manager positions than promote someone from within. The turn around rate is severe. They expect top notch customer service out of you, and if you provide anything less you are belittled. The supervisors are all catty. They will throw you under the bus for no reason if they have any reason to not like you. They do this because they also hate their jobs. No one likes working for this call center. But, they do because it's a job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Stop being so catty! Appreciate your employees more and maybe the turn around rate won't be so high. Throwing a few pot lucks and expecting the employees to provide all of the food and entertainment is not OK. Stop promoting from the outside. Learn to appreciate the few good agents that are actually left before they leave.
