Former Employee – worked at Cabot Microelectronics full-time for more than 10 years
Pros – I was at Cabot Microelectronics for 12 years--started there when they were parent of Cabot Corp, went thru the IPO, etc. It's a great company to work for. Work/life balance is a strong value and benefits are consistent with this including a generous time off policy.
Cons – Nothing comes to mind--on the whole working here was a great experience.
Advice to Senior Management – Again, nothing comes to mind. Overall great!

Former Employee – worked at Cabot Microelectronics
Pros – Very supportive of work life balance - always allowed people to address their home front if needed.
Cons – Company has very limited upside. The core business is dying, has a lot of competition from overseas. Customers are often unhappy, causing tension through the organization. New business does not seem promising. All in all, not a great future - you can only cut costs so many times.
Advice to Senior Management – Be bold regarding the future

Current Employee – been working at Cabot Microelectronics
Pros – Good company with strong ethics and values. Great safety culture. Still got a somewhat small company feel despite size / revenues.
Cons – Incredibly process orientated and bureaucratic. Prides itself on "the matrix", which means it takes a very long time to drive even incremental change. Trying to become more innovative and entrepreneurial but the DNA is not there.
Advice to Senior Management – Move faster, take some risks. Encourage employees to make decisions, and don't second guess them.

Former Employee – worked at Cabot Microelectronics
Pros – Excellent policies for work/life balance. High level of trust that employees are dedicated and deserve no scrutiny for requests for time off. Company used to offer very good benefits but are decidedly middle of the road now. Nothing special compared to others. Good facility with adequate resources to do the job.
Cons – Upper management is utterly clueless and has created a bloated, inexperienced middle management that runs roughshod over front line employees. Management by fear and intimidation. Numerous people fired for no cause - they simply ran afoul of some middle manager with a vendetta or personal issues. Absolutely zero job security. A very depressing place to work because everyone fears for their job. Performance reviews and job security are directly tied to popularity witih middle management.
Advice to Senior Management – Get rid of the ineffectual, bloated and inexperienced middle management. Their petty games and power struggles are ruining the company if it is already not too late.
