    Pros

    - Highest, prestigious quality clients
    - Brilliant attorneys
    - Above market compensation
    - Opportunity for growth

    Cons

    - Long hours but this is to be expected at 1st tier law firm
    - Needs to invest more in marketing/pr as it isn't as well known as the other top law firms in the country when it should be

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you're doing. Associates appreciate the very generous bonuses (summer in addition to winter)

    Great place to work

Former Intern - Intern in New York, NY

I worked at Cahill Gordon as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great NYC based firm with an impressive national/global reach, especially with having most of their lawyers in NYC. More than I could have expected in terms of experience.

    Cons

Not really a structured undergrad internship program, but that was expected considering they usually don't hire them. Great experience despite the lack of other interns.

    Advice to Management

No real advice. Could be a good idea to create a small undergrad internship program, but understandable due to the current economy and job market not to.

  3. It is very hierarchical and not a very pleasant atmosphere.

    Pros

The location in downtown Manhattan is ideal for a young professional, especially if you want to live in Brooklyn, and most of the young associates are nice.

    Cons

The partners are not happy with their lives and it bleeds into the culture of the office, which can be unfriendly and competitive.

    Advice to Management

Most of the young associates are not engaged and are only working for a paycheck, but I suppose that is to be expected given the type of work it is.

    Pros

It is expected that attorneys work very long hours when necessary

  6. Nice people, work is intense and monotonous

    Pros

Excepting Wachtell, top of the market compensation.

    Cons

Sink or swim culture dominates. Some partners are terrible managers. Shared offices for junior associates.

    Advice to Management

Distribute workload more equitably among junior associates. Be more transparent about firm's direction and decision-making.

    Pros

Stable, decent benefits, nice office space.

    Cons

No one cares about the employees, little to no growth for upward mobility, the senior authority only cares for themselves. Overworked, underpaid. Office politics are sticky and people are too nosy. It's like high school.

    Advice to Management

Stop being cheap and value your employees. Good people are hard to find.

    Pros

The cash bonuses but compared to other companies it's not that much.

    Cons

The attorneys for the most part are jerks. It's rare to have a really nice, down to earth attorney, for the most part they treat the secretaries with little to no respect. Treat the staff poorly. The attorneys are treated on a different level. The salary.

    Advice to Management

Acknowledge hard work that the staff perform. Treat all staff members the same, if you request one to be on time request all. Certain people should not be penalized for arriving on a rare occasion 10 minutes late while others arrive almost an hour late. Also, just because an employee "can handle difficult people/attorneys" don't punish them by making them work for these difficult people while they ate basically being harassed on the job.

    Pros

Cahill paid great bonuses, and had competitive benefits. Great tech stipend. Rewards associates for the long hours.

    Cons

Long hours, expect to spend most nights there.

    Advice to Management

    Keep listening to your associates.

    Pros

good overall benefits package (flex-spending, medical and dental insurance) friendly coworkers, job stability, and vacation time

    Cons

lack of proper training, seems management doesn't value staff, considerably low salary, small raises, practically zero opportunity for growth

    Advice to Management

try to show more appreciation towards individuals who have dedicated themselves to firm

    Pros

The prestige of the place is still great if you're in New York and they're working on high level and high profile deals.

    Cons

Very little transfer of recognition in other markets and the deals are few and far between. The laissez-faire approach is really code for lack of structure.

    Advice to Management

Management needs to put more focus on the actual development and support of young attorneys. It's telling that in this crazy economic climate young associates are walking away without a new position lined up.
