I have been working at Calibre CPA Group, PLLC

    Pros

    - opportunities to grow and advance as long as you show initiative
    - open door policy with partners
    - time allocated for cpa exam review and time-off
    - diverse
    - there is a social committee that actually organizes events (happy hour, picnic, holiday party, etc.)
    - audit staff will learn how to do nonprofit tax returns
    - 55hr busy season schedule
    - free lunch during busy season
    - great referral program

    Cons

    - salaries are a tad lower than competitors
    - medical plan coverage not great, no dental and vision plan
    - favoritism exists which result in staff thinking they are privileged
    - promotions from staff to senior are based in impressions rather than actual work results
    - results of committee (partner and manager) meetings are not regularly discussed with staff
    - marketing is weak; firm is not known other than in the labor union arena
    - tax returns are done by audit staff (burden to the 55hr busy season schedule)
    - requirement to come in on saturdays of busy season
    - weak staff scheduling

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

listen to all employees' complaints and suggestions (speak to each employee rather than doing it as a group); improve the mentoring program; communicate regularly to the firm staff about important firm initiatives and events; have a real flex work schedule option

Worse CPA firm to work for.

I have been working at Calibre CPA Group, PLLC full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Travel is good. Compliance auditors can perform audits without being onsite.

    Cons

Management doesn't support employees. They tend to side with clients when issues arise between employees and clients. They seem to be racist too! They seem to promote a certain type of minority. Auditors can inflate travel expense reports in order to get a larger travel reimbursement. Items overstated on travel report.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

They need to treat their employees fair.

Relaxed work environment but weak leadership

    Pros

The firm supports work-life balance and the atmosphere is very relaxed. The firm is located in a good area of the city and they organize social events throughout the year.

    Cons

This firm does not reward exceptional performance, so there is no incentive to work hard here. Information sharing among different levels in the organization is limited, departments do not interact well with each other, leadership is extremely weak in general, senior management is slow to make changes, and they do not listen (or react) to feedback from employees who are actually doing the day-to-day client work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

None (they would not listen anyhow)
