I have been working at California Family Fitness part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Free membership, great employees, awesome amenities. The people are really nice, and it's a great place to learn some basic skills.

    Cons

They don't train their fitness department. Upper management is so disorganized, they miss out on keeping some of their best and most productive employees. The pay sucks, and they expect to retain good employees with little pay.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Appreciate your hard working employees. Train them properly, and get it together.

I have been working at California Family Fitness

    Pros

Fun working environment. It feels good to help people meet their fitness goals. Free membership.

    Cons

Management care about nothing other than sales, not developing their trainers. Money, money, money is all you will hear from them. High turnover in all positions. Long hours where you will not be paid for off time between clients. Expect 12 hour days to make a small living.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay your trainers a living wage so that you can keep quality trainers and not have so much turnover. 8 dollar an hour introductory sessions are not reasonable. The clients are getting hurt because of the turnover.

I worked at California Family Fitness

    Pros

The environment is fun and motivating, and the people are great both members and employees. A free gym membership is included. Good job for people who are in school because of the flexible hours.

    Cons

The pay is horrible. For all the money this company makes, they are very tight. As a supervisor you get no respect at all. Maybe you'll make $9.50 to $10.50 an hour as a supervisor, doing all the work, while most operations managers sit back and do nothing. Upper management is beyond horrible. Arrogant men who think they are better than everyone else. I'd bet 90% of the Cal fit managers are miserable.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay more attention to the people who really run the gyms, and stop praising the people who sit around.

    Pros

The company has a great foundation of management. If you are willing to learn they will provide you with all the tools you need to succeed and grow. The atmosphere of the gyms is great, never a dull moment. The interaction with the staff and the members makes every day enjoyable.

    Cons

The job can be demanding at times but it comes with the responsibility!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Continue to lead by example!

    Pros

If you like kids and like being active, this job can be really fun. You get a free gym membership which is great.

    Cons

It depends on which location you work at but the management can be unappreciative of their employees.

I worked at California Family Fitness part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

I like working for cal fit because of the coworkers, the flexible schedule and the free gym membership.

    Cons

I've been working for Cal Fit now for over 3.5 years been promoted twice and only make $10 an hour. They do not offer raises to child care staff. They expect so much from you for so little pay. They expect part-time staff to be consistently available for shift coverages even though they given limited hours.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat child care staff better, they are the ones who retain members. Offer raises.

I have been working at California Family Fitness

    Pros

    Love the company and facilities

    Cons

Be prepared to sell (harass) people into joining. Must be willing to work booths at events, the mall, or even outside of a safeway/walmart/cvs. You are also expected to gather your own leads so being willing to pass out fliers and ask people for their phone numbers for you to call them is also a job requirement. Turn over is extremely high, not only for consultants, but also for the management team. Sales department seems to need an overhaul completely. The top sales producers are rewarded with contests and prizes as well as great commission checks, however, from what I have seen so far, the top producers are the ones doing the most shady and unethical things.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I would recommend more consistency between managers. Seems as though even though we are one company all located within the same Sacramento area, each club operates independently and each manager has a completely different way of running their club.

I have been working at California Family Fitness full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

No 2 days are the same. Upper management makes you feel appreciated, and as a result, staff is willing to go the extra mile. Loyal and commited compnay that that makes you feel as if they are only as strong as the people they have working for them - with that being said, they always seem to be interested in promoting growth within the company.

    Cons

Long and demanding hours. Work has become a huge part of my life - but it is also because I take pride in it!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep listening to those of us that are in the trenches. With every club having it's own culture, it is hard to place everyone under the same blanket. Keep grouth in mind, but not at the expense of a lower service level.
