I worked at California State Employees Association

    Pros

This is a non-for-profit organization union representing state employees. The association negotiates salary benefits with state officials for over 124,000 members. The work is fast pace. The natural of the work requires confidentiality and the ability to make quick decision. Employees often face crisis situations and must be capable of multitasking. The organization requires dedication and hard work but the compensation and benefits are very generous.

    Cons

As an employee you must be wiling to work long hours, to travel extensively, and to campaign for candidates that you may not support. Management is not always forthcoming with information necessary to complete tasks.

I have been working at California State Employees Association

    Pros

The benefit package cannot be matched, and non-management is paid at leat 30# more than private industry. The work hours are very reasonable and adjustable. It is nearly impossible to get fired due to UAW Local 2350 representation.

    Cons

Many employees feel entitled to their job whether they deserve it or not. They (speaking of fellow employees) use UAW as an excuse to not do their work to the best of their ability. Although I enjoy the generous benefits package and above market pay that the UAW CBA gives us; I just do not think that the model is viable.
