    Pros

    Save people.
    Flexible with time.

    Cons

Because we save lives that excuse is given way too much. We need to focus on the big picture. Treat our accounts and employees better.
PTO does not add up quick & is combined with holidays and sick time. Not flexible about time off.
Leadership is too busy in meetings to understand the front line.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Job shadow on tough days & cases.

I have been working at California Transplant Donor Network full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The coworkers are great, and the Company Mission is truly something that everyone can stand behind.

    Cons

To many changes in regards to processes and the direction the organization is going in.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

My advice to Upper Management is to please let your managers and supervisors manage and supervise.
There is no need for the constant micro management by the Director and VP level.
I can only imagine all of the other activities Directors and VP's have on their plates, getting on the ground level to micro manage seems not only silly but a gross abuse of resources and time.

I have been working at California Transplant Donor Network full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

It's a privilege to work for an organization that saves and heals lives.

    Cons

Management and leadership is mushy. Compensation is not competitive and can be unevenly distributed among equally qualified staff.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Change management is lacking despite being immersed in it for several years.

I worked at California Transplant Donor Network full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great mission statement, good benefits, reimbursed timely, support staff (admin) available as much as possible even in a 24/7 work environment. Provides leadership classes for all levels of management. All staff meetings worth going to.

    Cons

The company has been going through changes for the past 5 years. It is difficult to get things done when senior leadership is not on the same page, however in the last 6 months, things are getting done in a more timely manner

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get over your ego, its hurting the culture. Get rid of the silos. Show that there is room for advancement for all and act on in a more timely manner. We can't wait around forever. Keep the all staff meetings going. Cindy is doing great.

I have been working at California Transplant Donor Network full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Purposeful work. What you do each day makes a difference in people's lives... Literally.

    Cons

Management. Pay. Constant understaffing. Constant directional change. Do more with less attitude about everything. Micromanagement.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Support your staff. Give employees autonomy and trust they know what they are doing. Stop trying to rule by fear and micromanaging; if you don't trust your staff fire them or don't hire them... If they are there leave them alone and trust that they know how to do their jobs and are capable of making good decisions in the moment. Break up the good old boys club and respect the employees that give... And give and give... Oh and maybe pay them what they are worth!!!

    Pros

Mission-driven organization and culture. Most employees believe in the cause.

    Cons

Most employees are spread out around the state working remotely and at variable hours. This can sometimes make it difficult to meet or work in teams.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have no advice or suggestions to offer upper management. The business strategy made sense and was geared toward rapid growth.

I have been working at California Transplant Donor Network

    Pros

People are generally kind and caring
Doing your part to save lives, it's nice to know at the end of the day your work is going to help someone live, not just make a couple bucks
Small organization allows you to make an impact quickly if you work hard

    Cons

Bonuses and raises aren't competitive rarely match adjust living rates
    Little chance to move upward
Older style management techniques: Work hard. Annual reviews don't affect salary changes or bonuses, nor are they consistent across departments.
    Support staff are neglected

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Promote teamwork throughout the organization. Increase communication with transparency. Not just talk about it.

I have been working at California Transplant Donor Network

    Pros

Highly respected organization serving the needs of families and transplant centers related to organ donation. They are a premier resource for the community at large regarding organ and tissue donation.
Management is highly skilled and have woked diligently to create a positive, supportive environment.
Diversity is respected, creative initiative fostered and respect is present at all levels. Overtime is generously compensated.

    Cons

In many of the job catagories there is the possibility of needing to work overtime, although overtime is well compensated, the hours can be challenging. Travel occurs often and may involve fling in a small plane with a single pilot.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue with your excellent approach. Make decisions more open so that suspicions are not aroused

I have been working at California Transplant Donor Network full-time

    Pros

The company has a strong message of helping save lives, and does enormous good in the community. Many departments are very well run, so long as upper management doesn't meddle. For many years, employee retention was incredibly high, despite the difficult nature of the work.

    Cons

Personnel hired for management are inexperienced, uneducated, and seem unable to extend board room ideas effectively to the workplace. Instead of trying for a collaborative approach, managers simply push to bring employees to heel.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look long and hard at some of the mid-level managers that you have, and evaluate whether or not they are truly the problem. Chances are, the solution is simpler that it may appear at first glance.
