    Pros

some of the reasons I liked to work at CalU were that it was a quiet town, medium work load and very friendly co-workers.

    Cons

Leadership was a bit shaky at the time. President Armenti Jr. was one of the finest. My immediate boss was pretty helpful and understanding of workloads and deadlines but some others did have a hard time.

    Advice to Management

Hire the right people. You are only as good as the people who work for you.

    Pros

The faculty love providing the graduate assistants with meaningful work and learning opportunities. They are very flexible when it comes to hours and with school work or class times.

    Cons

It can be difficult to balance an GA position, an internship, a family and school work. More time management support should be offered.

    Advice to Management

Provide GA's the opportunity to work from home at times.

I worked at California University of Pennsylvania

    Pros

It is a fun place to work - you can easily make friends, do homework on the job, and gain on the job training.

    Cons

The university is very inefficient when it comes to paperwork - everything is done with actual papers and they can become misplaced. If the paperwork is misplaced, the student will keep working without notice and will simply not get a paycheck until the university finds the papers.

    Advice to Management

    Go digital.

    Pros

Great work environment, friendly staff, safe environment, unionized

    Cons

State budget cuts, no mobility, you have to pay for parking

    Advice to Management

The students and bulk of staff are always paying more. But administrators and managers make fantastic salaries. Really not fair and kills morale.

  7. Great workload/hour balance

    Pros

Teachers unionized means excellent compensation and privileges. Students really seem to want to be there.

    Cons

The surrounding neighborhood is a bit isolated and depressed economically leading to many run-down buildings and underdevelopment.

    Pros

Positive, friendly work environment. Faculty and management are very down to earth for the most part. Good benefits and flexibility. You look forward to going to work every day. Unionized work environment.

    Cons

Being a state school, Cal U is suffering from budget cuts. There is a lot of administrative upheaval. Depending on where you work, there is instability. The pay rate for many positions is not competitive.

    Advice to Management

Protect staff and faculty rights more. We seem to suffer just so that Cal U can keep up the appearance of being a growing university.
