I have been working at California's Great America part-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Excellent way to relieve stress- scaring guests during Haunt was great fun

    Cons

When alcohol is being served, and some guests aren't having a good time, things can get heated.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Enforce the no children under 13 policy more strictly.

    Pros

If you're a sensible enough person, get along with your coworkers and supervisors, and have decent attendance, the chances of you getting good hours or being promoted.are fairly good. Coworkers are, for the most part, friendly; guests can go either way but are usually decent; supervisors are also very hit or miss. As stated earlier, if you're on good terms with your supervisor, they'll give you a little room to schedule your own shifts. You will be trained to work many different areas so you have to be prepared. If you're based at one place, there's a high chance you will temporarily work somewhere else in the park for the day if they're short on employees. I was based at Picnic Pavilion which hosts corporate events and it was the most ideal place to work as a Food Associate in the park, Grove and Carts are also not bad.

Working during Halloween Haunt was probably the highlight of working there because of the park's atmosphere and it made sometimes monotonous work seem not so soulcrushing. Word to the wise, make friends with your coworkers and supervisors, it makes the time go by much faster.

    Cons

Company culture is rather dated and out of touch with the current generation (as demonstrated by the VHS quality video they show at orientation). There are some days where you're either inside all day or outside. Working outside during the summer can be a nightmarish since being in the park can make it feel much hotter than it actually is and dehydration can be an issue if you're not used to the heat.

    Pros

Excellent co-workers, fun job, decent pay, all the things that you would want from a seasonal job.

    Cons

Dealing with some of the customers can be a drag, their corporate policies are very rigid leaving you no real wiggle room. And, it being seasonal, they can legally let you go at any time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take more specific personal circumstances into account such as problems at home, last minute transportation problems, etc.

    Pros

free admission to the park, sun burn, no days off.

    Cons

the amount of time it take to get to the annex that is about half a mile is ridiculous. Also you are somewhat trapped at the park and have to buy the expensive lunch there.

    Pros

I really enjoy working here for the most part. We have a pretty decent staff, great patients and decent equipment.

    Cons

Some of the staff can be difficult to work with. There is a lot of drama in the EMT department that stems from particular individuals. There is also a lot of paperwork since they are very worried about being sued since it is a theme park.

I worked at California's Great America part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Great beginning job, you learn a lot especially when dealing with large amounts of people. The co-workers make the job worth going to, the majority are great, very friendly and helpful, and fun. They give lots of hours so you will get decent and sometimes big paychecks. Perks are fair, free park access, free park parking, huge food discounts. Promotions happen a lot to hard workers.

    Cons

Management is difficult and dont care about your excuses. Training isn't steady, each person has their own methods and techniques that they show you so there is no standard way to do certain things. When dealing with guest complaints some supervisors wont help you, or will scold you on the side for asking for help if you don't know what do to. Pay is minimum wage, so the less hours you have the smaller your paycheck is. If you live far away 40min or more, expect traffic to be a nightmare.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't punish the employees because of school related absences.

I have been working at California's Great America part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

The people that you meet here are great. Talking to everyone helps and is a great idea, especially if you are new. Occasional conversations with guests and after-work conversations with fellow employees are often the highlight of the day. The supervisors are chill and everyone here seems to be a great person.

    Cons

Work can get very tiring and boring. Having to repeat the same things to inattentive guests can be irritating as well.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Add more sitting positions for lifeguards, standing in one place for hours can be tiring. Also, focus on switching out and rotating employees out more efficiently.
