I have been working at Calix full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Challenging assignments, lots of work but reasonable expectations. Company runs lean but this is a good thing because this means none of the typical layoff stress. But they do let people go due to performance.

    Cons

Lots of work and high expectations due to lean staffing. Company is so focused on the core strategy that other opportunities are often over looked.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More communication with the workforce. Keep the team strategy clear and preach it often.

Good culture, people around very helpful, company management has good vision, good compensation

    Cons

Employees in customer service get burned out due to long work hours, resulting in no work life balance...

    Pros

During my first 3 years, the company was great. Awesome co-workers and positive environment.

    Cons

Now the water is black. The CEO,no longer runs the ship and has left it in the hands of HR. Why would a company do that? When will it be recognized that HR is driving the company and culture aground? HR is not in a support/morale booster role, but rather is controlling the company's overall business.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It is highly discouraging to work in a toxic environment. Up front, things may appear fine, but it doesn't take long for the cancer to become apparent.
Advice? Replace HR, starting at the top.

    I worked at Calix

    Pros

People, some folks work hard and really care about doing a good job and acting in the company's best interests

    Cons

Some groups/individuals are along for the ride on the gravy train, reallocating resources from more financially responsible groups so they can pad their own salaries and bonuses. Lots of disparities in compensation, bonuses, and workload. Lack of recognition and promotion regardless of effort, promotions and financial rewards only doled out to those in are certain "elite" groups, or who have won favor with the right directors/managers. If you're in the elite, you can receive a lofty title and hire others to do the work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to revisit employee relations and do a better job at retaining key employees

I have been working at Calix full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Intelligent people, comfortable work spaces, lots of free lunches.

    Cons

HR is untrustworthy, and has transformed an open culture into a very political one. Too much focus on street performance and rewarding investors, and not enough focus on rewarding employees for their contributions towards those successes.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

This used to be a great place to work, but quality of everything has steadily declined. Top management needs to start paying attention to something other than their own stocks and salaries, and start focusing on employees below them in the org chart.

    I worked at Calix full-time

    Pros

Good working environment for the most part. People are nice. Stable revenue flow.

    Cons

Has a bad HR crew especially on the top. Overpaid, Underworked, untrustworthy. HR is full of untalented Sr employees get paid big chunk but they hire consultants to do their job. They take care of themselves and go under the radar.
Most of them don't show up to work in locations besides the ones working in HQ.

Once you are hired, it is hard to get salary increase even if you are promoted. HR's tap runs dry for others.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Refresh your HR crew. Start from the TOP.They are poisoning the well.
Recognise your top performers. Don't leave it up to HR. Review comp. in detail and give top performers awards and salary increase.

I have been working at Calix full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Very comfortable workplace. People who work here are very smart and a great bunch to chat with just about anything.

    Cons

There are not very many cons at Calix. The only thing I can think of is that sometimes when there is a deadline the expectation is to drop everything (including home life)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

While I appreciate there have not been layoffs since the early days, running so lean can burn folks out.

I worked at Calix as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

Good environment to work in. My experience was as an intern. People definitely did get promoted there from time to time, which could be noticed via email congratulations.

    Cons

Intern pay was decent. I honestly am very grateful for the opportunity since finding an engineering internship in the north bay can be difficult.
