    Pros

Customer and solutions driven company with a solid vision and plan to be successful. They challenge and treat their employees well. They have a good benefits program.

    Cons

A change in HR Exec staff about 1.5 years ago caused a change in the culture from one of open door and communication to one of political and personal. The Exec HR staff changed in Q4 2015 and I'm optimistic that the new leadership will institute a positive non-political environment.

    Advice to Management

Continue to hire employees that are talented and fit within the Calix culture of working hard and reaping the rewards equally. Continue to improve the employee benefits, we are your greatest asset.

    Good medical benefits.
Strong product technology and some market niches

    Cons

    Very little to no training.
    Lack of work/life balance
Lack of leadership. Have forced out C staff who were great leaders

    Advice to Management

    Pros

Excellent work environment. Interesting product set to work on. Solid technical line management.Opportunity for multi-site development and travel.

    Cons

Struggling to get to the next level of growth due to formidable international competition. Limited R&D budget constrains opportunities to accelerate growth.

    Advice to Management

Focus on growing building out the lower tier with higher quality products before attempting to win larger tier1/1-2 companies.

    Pros

Original Culture was good but quickly fell to pieces due to H.R's overtake of organization. New culture doesn't focus on employee retention. Doesn't focus on employees period. Hopefully now that some of the H.R. staff has left (one BP left), we might be able to get back to some sense of employee appreciating.

    Cons

H.R. destroyed the culture and executive staff decided it was not a priority to pay attention. Work life balance Don't exist. Be ready to put in log hours and not be appreciated.

    Advice to Management

Pay attention. When you loose good people that have been with the organization for a log time, something in employee retention may be out of order. Care about the employees and not just about making money. These people spend most of their day supporting your organization, sacrificing family, their health and seems only the sales staff reap the benefits. We ALL have put in hard work and long hours. It would be nice if we all were appreciated for our efforts. Not just in words but deeds. Food doesn't work all the time for everyone. Stop hiring a bunch of chiefs hire some Indians. Too top heavy.

    Pros

CEO is brilliant and fun! The HR staff are phenomenal despite the uninformed and frankly outrageous comments from a couple troubled employees. They are a new team that has been able to put in a successful bonus plan in place, merit plans for the first time, increase stock grant levels and distribution, and basically fought for employees rewards every quarter they have been on staff. The CEO did not hand over running the company to anyone (read the ratings on him! Leaders with such an extraordinary rating do not pass over their leadership.) He does respect their counsel and expertise though....any great leader would do the same.

    Cons

Great culture, great environment that is centered around constructively confronting challenges or new ideas, and collaborating on the best solutions. Negative would be the tiny number of uninformed unprofessional individuals that don't know the difference between healthy confrontation and misinformed, unwarranted personal attacks. Oh well, bright highly skilled HR professionals can stand proud despite the petty banter.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you're doing! Oh and CEO get out more as the employees adore you!

    Pros

During my first 3 years, the company was great. Awesome co-workers and positive environment.

    Cons

Now the water is black. The CEO,no longer runs the ship and has left it in the hands of HR. Why would a company do that? When will it be recognized that HR is driving the company and culture aground? HR is not in a support/morale booster role, but rather is controlling the company's overall business.

    Advice to Management

It is highly discouraging to work in a toxic environment. Up front, things may appear fine, but it doesn't take long for the cancer to become apparent.
Advice? Replace HR, starting at the top.

    Pros

Intelligent people, comfortable work spaces, lots of free lunches.

    Cons

HR is untrustworthy, and has transformed an open culture into a very political one. Too much focus on street performance and rewarding investors, and not enough focus on rewarding employees for their contributions towards those successes.

    Advice to Management

This used to be a great place to work, but quality of everything has steadily declined. Top management needs to start paying attention to something other than their own stocks and salaries, and start focusing on employees below them in the org chart.
