    Pros

Opportunity for unique experiences. Neat to see things you work with everyday on TV on the weekends and feed off the energy of the pro tour. Great people.

    Cons

open door policy that blacklists you when you walk through it. If youre not in the club, youre not going anywhere. You either march to the drum or they march you out. New ideas are encouraged right up to when you offer them. Zero respect for work/life balance.

    Advice to Management

Humility isnt weakness, its strength. Embrace the ideas of those below you.

    Pros

Good brand, good product discounts, good people working in the trenches, opportunities for growth if you work hard and network yourself with the right people.

    Cons

Golf industry is soft and consolidating, no real growth in this industry anymore. New management is constantly making changes to processes and shuffling people out the door. No real job security except for a few connected people.

    Advice to Management

New management is fixing problems laid down by previous leadership, however start improving communication to those in the trenches and stop allowing fear of job losses halt the organizations creativity.

Golf ball company moved to Mexico for more profits.

Former Employee - Reaction Injection Mold Technician in Chicopee, MA

I worked at Callaway Golf full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The pay was competitive with other local factories and was --- in 2005 --- a great place to work. The shifts were 12 hours but they rotated workers to prevent injuries and to supply workers with more knowledge of all aspects of the reaction injection mold department, a high-
security access area in a company of approximately 1,400 employees locally.

    Cons

As the owners shifted focus on worker safety, rewarding almost unheard of excellent production (in 3 years we almost tripled production rates while bringing 1st time pass rates from 67% to 99.2%) and the appreciation of hard working employees to focus on profits for management, stockholders and owners, the company decided to move operations to Mexico in order to pay employees 1/5th the scale of Americans who appreciated and valued their jobs and did them well!!!

    Advice to Management

Never discount dedicated employees with years of experience for the short-term profits stockholders seem to crave; think of the long run and share the greater profits with those who sweated and sacrificed to earn those profits in the first place.
Sure, management deserves some credit, but so did those who actually produced the 16 Million dollars ABOVE projected profits in 2010 in the Chicopee plant alone, instead of bailing out of the U.S. workers who made you said profits and moving to Mexico to save money short term.

  8. Very Dissappointing; bad management

    Pros

Pretty nice product, nice location. Many nice employees. When I first started working there, seemed like a stable company.

    Cons

The Executive staff is the good ol' boy's club. They like to spend money on their perks but not on the development of their employees.
Way too many layoffs. People were always worried who was next. They've let go so many first line employees but kept so much management. Finally got to laying off managers and VPs so they're not too top heavy.
HR Department has cliques in the worst way. They look the other way when the executives misbehave and even when their own HR staff misbehaves. If you're best buddies with HR management, then you get preferential treatment. The HR Director and staff have way to many meetings to discuss what they will meet about next week. And, most of their meetings turn in to social hour and are a total waste of time.

    Advice to Management

Pick a CEO and upper management and stick with it.

    Pros

Work environment is good. Pace of work is good and they are flexible with the work schedule, a great amount of vacation/time off.

    Cons

Benefits have dropped dramatically, regular layoffs for the last 3 years, a ton of cost cutting measures, morale is horrible.

    Pros

When I started it was very entreprenuerial, I was able to advance from a Sr. Analyst to a Director in 9 years. Lots of freedom to make decisons that were right for the company, and to pursue training and education in the fields that interested me. great benefits, great work life balance.

    Cons

6 CEOs in 9 years led to a lack of cohesion. Each CEO had a new direction, each one brought in a slew of upper management that came from many industries, but no real plan to improve the bottom line. 6th set was enough for me.

    Advice to Management

get a plan, expand and find new markets. Golf is pricing itself out of the average person's life, you must expand into something else. Quit retreating.

    Pros

People you work around , perks

    Cons

dated offices, poor middle management, lack of vision, old technologies, LACK OF MONEY FOR ANYTHING NEW - The answer is always, "We don't have the money for that" - even tech support for enterprise software, very FRAGILE and OLD tech environments, peers are AFRAID to say anything in fear of retribution by managers. If there is a tech issue, you are expected to respond even on your days off because there is no back-up for your position and if you think you are calling tech support FORGET IT because they don't buy maintenance.

    Advice to Management

ADVICE? They don't need advice because they either know everything or will refute what you offer. They say they have an "Open Door" policy but don't want to ever be told of issues - they are in DENIAL. Get real or lose what little talent you have left.
