Caltex Australia Analyst in Sydney (Australia):   (Current Employee) (Sneak Peek)

    Pros

Great support for for further tertiary study (eg. Masters)
Usually pretty easy to arrange Annual Leave when you want it.
Large number of opportunities for 'sideways' movemenet within the organisation.

    Cons

Very hard to move up within the orginisation. Values external candidates more highly than internal candidates.
Not a leading or innovative company. Prefers to be a follower,so don't plan on having any radical or progressive ideas.
Preference for Senior Managers to be recruited on secondment from Chevron, so don't plan on rising to GM or CEO level.
HR processes are very poor, hard to get any response from them when applying for internal jobs.
Managers are more like Senior Analysts, they don't really manage or lead their teams.
Many staff (low levels and managers) appear to be just hanging around until they retire in a few years, which results in the them lacking any sense of urgency or desire to 'rock the boat', it's easier to just lie low under the radar for the next few years.

    Advice to Senior Management

Management is too indecisive, takes too long to make decisions. Communication to front line workers is very poor.
