    Pros

    I enjoyed working with my coworkers in the "secluded" office. They were about the only thing that kept me at Cambridge Associates.

    Cons

    Lack of experienced management, communication, and help. When you speak up, no one ever listens or tries to fix the situation.

    Listen to your employees when they speak up to you. We are speaking up for a reason.

    Poor compensation and lack of career advancement makes it difficult after two years

    I have been working at Cambridge Associates, LLC full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    -High quality exposure to investment managers
    -Looks good on the resume
    -Initial good experience, but fades as time wears on
    -Good work/life balance
    -Management is open to hearing your issues, but it often does not go past this.

    Cons

    -Poor compensation and lack of ways to motivate employees.
    -Lack of cross collaboration among research departments makes employees incredibly siloed.
    -Any advancement (at least in manager research) is just a recognition of work performed with no additional responsibility being given.
    -One of C|A's "pillars" is to "Attract, leverage, and retain the best talent", but management focuses solely on attracting and especially leveraging talent doing little to nothing to try and retain any talent despite saying that you are a valued member and they want to retain you.
    -Advancement is limited at best. The highest level someone can achieve comes with an 18 month commitment which does not contain any real additional responsibility or explanation as to why a commitment must be made.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    If you really wish to retain the talent that you have leveraged take steps to address compensation and benefit issues. Management is too worried about the profit sharing plan while ignoring fairly compensating lower level employees that are not granted access to the profit sharing plan. Additionally, have a clear plan on how you want employees to develop over their career and have clear responsibilities as you "promote" employees.

    Pros

    Collegial work environment that is ideal for a recent college graduate.

    Cons

    Mislead about the quality and type of work I would be performing as an Investment Performance Associate.
    Mid-level management incredibly out of touch with the work of their subordinates.
    Operations/Performance Reporting department provides little potential for career development.
    The work done in performance reporting does not translate well to any other position in Finance.

    Pros

    It pays well, it's a decent introduction to the world of finance, lots of young people, and the benefits are nice.

    Cons

    The work lacks substance. As an associate, I would spend all my time hunting down performance numbers and checking work to make sure there were no obvious errors. If you had asked me on any day how the market was doing or what investment strategy seemed to be working, I would have had no clue.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    I didn't find much wrong with the leadership. The truth is that it is a job that needs to be done and the nature of that work did not suit me very well as an aspiring college grad looking to utilize my critical thinking/analytical abilities.

    Pros

    Good intiaial experience for young college graduates. Looks good on resume. Ability to work on multiple projects / asset classes. Most employee leave for business school after three to five years.

    Cons

    Pay is sub standard for finance industry. Limited upward mobitlity. Corporate philosophy is very backwards looking, and firm management is afraid to be bold in taking new direction.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    The future is not going to look like the past so stop looking in the rear view mirror. Founders' philosophy worked 20 years ago; time to re-assess.

    Pros

    Relatively good pay for an entry level job. Good benefits. Cambridge is well known and respected by many in the investment community. Young coworkers. Ability to advance within department. Will pay up to $2500 in tuition assistance and encourages employees to take CFA exams by paying for them (if you fail, you have to pay back).

    Cons

    Boring job. Rote data entry and publishing are better descriptors of the job than anything financial related. Even so, requires long hours and sometimes an overload of work. Sometimes you work 60+ hrs and are extremely stressed, while other times you have literally no work to do all week but are still required to be in office for 40 hrs.

    Pros

    Absolutely the work life balance is the best part. Coming right out of college you make pretty good money (50K) for the number of hrs worked (45 hrs per wk). Great if you only have to support yourself, particularly because of benefits.

    Cons

    there isn't enough responsibility given in order to think analytically. It's almost all data entry despite what they say on interview day. It is difficult to take what you do here and apply it to a next job. You would almost assuredly have to go to business school.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    My advice would be to be more honest during the interview process. A lot of people leave because they don't know what they are getting themselves into. Almost everyone from the 2008 class has already left.

    Pros

    -Great company.
    -Excellent name, especially with Grad schools.
    -You can make the job sound better than it is.
    -The knowledge that other departments do really cool work.
    -Department is great if you love data entry.
    -Company pays for CFA exam and most of the cost for materials (if you pass)

    Cons

    -Extraordinarily boring work, and it never really gets a lot more interesting: As an associate you enter data. As a senior associate you oversee four people entering data and perform lots of admin tasks. As an analyst you proof associates' data entry.
    -Investment Performance reporting group is a pariah department in the company.
    -Internal transfers technically require 13 months, but in reality you'll need 24-30 months to be -looked at.
    -Poor department management.
    -Excessive busywork, lots of admin.
    -Young, inexperienced managers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Keep up the good work with the company as a whole. Give the Investment Performance Reporting department some more love, even if it isn't a profit center.

    Pros

    Investment consulting experience. Lots of exposure to largest institutional investors. Cambridge offers a good entry level job for young professionals interested in the investment business. Cambridge experience also looks good on the resume if applying to graduate school. Promotions come easily and are based more on time at the firm and less on performance.

    Cons

    Compensation is very low. Benefits are OK. Most employees could probably find jobs paying 50-100% more than Cambridge pays with investment managers or in other financial services fields

    Pros

    The people. The comradry between the workers is amazing. Management (Consultants and above) do not support their people, so the staff gives the support.

    Cons

    There is no communication in the company. I know of many people who left the company, and their emails are still active, and an announcement was not sent. There is little recognition at Cambridge. Those who pass the CPA are not acknowledged, nor are daily achievements. Money is the bottomline- and that is all that matters. This past Administrative Professionals Day, the staff was given a Chipotle lunch- management did not acknowledge their contributions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    I would suggest that communication be better. Both negative and positive feedback, when needed, should be given when events occur, not on a yearly basis.
